In that moment, my face and Melinda’s seemed to blur together in Chuck’s eyes. His lips moved, but no words came out. But
wasn’t that silence itself enough of an answer?
It turned out that what I had thought was a perfect love and marriage was nothing but a joke.
Seeing a fleeting shadow outside the window, I swallowed my disgust, took Chuck’s hand, and leaned down to press a kiss on his
cheek.
He froze on the spot. A flicker of surprise appeared in his eyes. “You would forgive me?”
I looked down. “No. I never want to see you again for as long as I live.”
With that, I stood up and said, “I’m going to the restroom.”

With my phone showing an ongoing call in my hand, I walked to the rooftop with Quinn, who was not far off.
We strolled casually, chatting as if it was just another conversation. “You’re not planning to divorce anymore?”
Quinn smiled. “Mhm. Harry said he would cut ties with Melinda for me.”
We heard the soft footsteps behind us pause. However, we acted as if we hadn’t noticed.
In a gentle tone, I remarked, “It seems they don’t care about Melinda that much. Chuck even apologized to me. Maybe we can
make things work after all. Let’s go upstairs to clear our minds.”
When we reached the rooftop, Melinda’s bitter voice sounded from behind us. “You cheap women! Weren’t you supposed to be
getting a divorce? Why are you still clinging to Chuck and Harry?”
Seeing that Melinda had taken the bait, I turned to face her. It was she who had contacted Chuck and Harry’s enemies,
orchestrated our kidnapping, and even put herself in harm’s way as leverage.
Did she never consider the consequences if her gamble failed? Or was she so confident that Chuck and Harry would choose her
over us?
Whether it was the former or the latter, it only showed that Melinda’s choices were indeed telling.
I sweetly asked in return, “Why wouldn’t we? Chuck likes me. He just told me that he only sees you as a sister. Melinda, why don’t you just let it go?”
The look in Melinda’s eyes turned crazed for a split second.
