Harry looked at Melinda with a complex expression. He couldn’t respond to my earlier accusations.
Melinda pressed her lips together, her eyes flickering darkly as she saw the hesitation on Harry and Chuck’s faces.
Her downcast gaze darkened, and she clenched her fists. Just as the police reached her, she suddenly lunged at me. In an instant,
both of us toppled over the edge, plummeting downward.
Quinn instinctively reached out, grabbing onto me, and the three of us fell down the building together.
Chuck and Harry rushed over, shouting in despair.
“Scarlett!”
“Quinn!”
During the brief freefall, I found myself strangely wondering if they would choose to save Quinn and me this time.
But it was too late.
We landed heavily on a soft air cushion. Melinda, furious, immediately tried to strangle me.
“Why are you still not dead? Why are you so lucky?”
A second later, the police on the ground restrained and took her away, while Quinn and I were sent to the hospital. I had a broken
right hand, while Quinn, luckily, only suffered minor scrapes.
When we arrived at the hospital, Harry and Chuck were already there, standing before us, breathless and disheveled.
In an instant, it felt like time had reversed to two months ago. However, our roles were reversed.
Chuck looked at me with pleading eyes, apologizing, “I’m sorry, Scarlett. I was wrong.”
It was as if they had finally seen Melinda’s true nature, and now they stood before Quinn and me, full of remorse.
