+15 BONUS
We seemed to be heading to a project site. New projects were usually set in the more remote suburbs, and with it being late at night, there were hardly any people on the road. My heart skipped a beat, and I forced myself to stay alert, calling out to Vincent, “Mr. Campbell, please pull over. I’m feeling a bit dizzy.”
Vincent didn’t stop. I repeated myself, and suddenly he laughed. “I was wondering why you turned me down last time. Turns out you hooked up with someone else, and then you had the nerve to badmouth me on your social media? Loren, you’re something
else.”
I kept my face expressionless. “I’m going to say this one last time. Pull over, or I can’t promise what I’ll do.”
Vincent smiled. “If I’m not mistaken, the effects of the drug are kicking in now. There’s not a soul around here, and soon, you’ll be begging me.” As he spoke, he actually pulled the car over and turned to look at me. “Or do you prefer the outdoors over the
car?”
Then, he suddenly seemed to remember something. “Oh, right. Two years ago, there was another woman who looked just as reluctant as you. She was from your company.” He mentioned her name and laughed. “Want to guess how she begged me in the
end?”
It was that girl from two years ago, the one with the alcohol allergy.
I furrowed my brows. “Why did Ms. Stauder cooperate with you?”
He put on a feigned expression of helplessness. “You think the price cut came easy? She was good at controlling the costs. The price was lowered so much that my profit barely existed. I’d rather not have done it, but…” He looked at me. “Mainly, it was because of you. You were trashing me on social media, weren’t you? So, I’m giving you a chance to beg me.” He chuckled.
“Are you not afraid I’ll call the police?”
He laughed. “Oh, please. Stop stalling. My car has a signal jammer. I know you’ve been texting your little boyfriend, but since you
were trying to avoid me, you didn’t dare check your phone. So, you wouldn’t even know if your messages went through.”
