replied.
Daniel never went back to his home over the next few days. Kevin was just a forensic doctor, so he had clearly reached his stamina limit. Besides, this wasn’t supposed to be in his job scope, yet he followed the police around stubbornly.
Chief Jacobson couldn’t take it any longer. He ended up forcing Kevin to take a few days off. Only a few police officers were tasked
to keep looking for new clues.
Kevin returned to the apartment we shared. The first thing he did was fall asleep right away.
Once he woke up, he instinctively called out to me. “Michelle, pour me a glass of water. I’m so parched…”
He waited for some time, yet my response never came. This elicited a frown from him. “Michelle, are you deaf?”
A while later, Kevin got out of bed. Only then did he realize that I wasn’t home.

After that, Kevin grabbed his phone and dug up my number from the contact list. He texted me angrily. “Let’s break up! Hurry up
and move your stuff out of my place!”
Once he shot me the text, he got up to his feet and left the apartment without bothering to check for a response.
The moment Kevin opened the door, I saw my parents standing at the doorway. Their hair had already grayed out in just a few
days, their faces now pale and exhausted.
I could only stand behind Kevin with tears running down my face.
Kevin was surprised to see them. “What are you—”
My dad grabbed Kevin by the arm. “Is Mich the victim who’s broadcasted on the news? She hasn’t contacted us for a very long
time!
“Mich has never done this before! She’s always been a sweet and obedient child! Something must have happened to her!”
My mom kept crying silently. As for me, I could only watch my parents cry.
The only people who truly cared about me were my parents in this whole wide world.
Kevin let out an annoyed sigh. “How could anything happen to her? She’s just hiding from us, that’s all! Also, Michelle’s whereabouts have nothing to do with me! I’ve already broken up with her!”
My dad lowered his head and moved to sink down to his knees. But Kevin was quick to steady him on his feet.
“What are you doing?”
“I’m begging you, please help us find Mich! She’s really gone missing! If you can contact her, tell her we’re very worried about her and ask her to go home as soon as
possible!”
