“Who taught you to speak to your elders like this? Do you have no sense of respect? With your sharp tongue and quick wit, it’s no
wonder Noah is wrapped around your finger.”
Her teeth clenched in anger.
Then, without warning, she grabbed the coffee cup and flung its contents at me.
She moved so fast that I had no time to dodge.
Simon appeared just in time, shielding my head in his arms.
The cup of coffee splashed squarely across his back, soaking through his clothes.
I looked up at him from his embrace in shock.
He glanced down at me at the same moment.
Beneath his coat, he was still wearing a hospital gown.
Simon clenched my wrist, yanking me up from my chair before turning to glare at Nancy, his voice low and dangerous.
“I’m mentally unstable–if I kill someone, I won’t be held accountable. Touch Chloe again and see what happens.”
Nancy hesitated, her gaze flickering over his disheveled appearance–his unkempt hair, the bandages wrapped around his wrist, the needle marks covering the back of his hand, and the hospital gown beneath his coat.
For a moment, she was visibly shaken.
She didn’t say another word.
Simon let out a cold scoff before pulling me out of the café.
The moment we stepped outside, Simon refused to leave.
He followed close behind, blocking my path at every turn.
Blood seeped through the bandages on his wrist, but he ignored his injuries, his focus locked on me.
“I had someone look into Noah. Do you even know that he’s already married overseas? He’s just playing with you, Chloe!”
I didn’t respond.
I stepped around him and kept walking.
Simon caught up again, grabbing my shoulders
His expression was raw with disbelief.
with both hands, his fingers digging in.

“You knew? You knew he was married, and you’re still with him?”
I pushed him away.
“Who I choose to be with has nothing to do with you.”
Simon let out a bitter laugh.
“Chloe, weren’t you always so proud? And now you’re willingly throwing yourself at him to be his mistress? Have you no shame?”
Lignored his words.
I pulled out my phone and dialed 911, my finger hovering over the call button.
