cleanly,
not causing even the slightest bit of damage.
At that moment, Aster’s finger twitched, and he started mumbling.
Shawn immediately pushed Jasmine out of his attention, leaning in close to Aster. “Aster, sweetheart, Daddy’s here!”
Aster’s lips moved, and he managed to croak out a few words, almost unintelligible, “Don’t… Bully Mommy…”
Shawn’s eyes widened, before he stumbled back into a chair, defeated.
He raised his hands slowly, holding his face as anguished sobs came from within his fingers, his wedding ring sparkling.
I raised my hand, looking at my ring finger.
There was nothing there.
My wedding ring was left on my corpse, but not on my soul.

Chapter 5
Truth be told, I would have thrown it away regardless, even if it followed me into this corporeal state.
Two years of dating and seven years of marriage, that’s what we had, and it didn’t even hold a candle to his first love.
If he loved Jasmine that much and didn’t forget her, then why did he marry me later?
Now, who was he to make such an anguished expression?

He sobbed there for a long moment, before he suddenly remembered something, and he rubbed his reddened eyes and cheeks. “Where’s… Where’s the toy car I gave him?”
It took Jasmine a long few seconds to remember what he was referring to, her expression turning ugly. “He was the one who smashed that thing to bits, wasn’t he? I already told the janitors to clean that rubbish out…”
Shawn, in an outburst of anger, pounced at her and wrapped his hands around her neck, choking her. “Who gave you permission to throw it away? That’s Aster’s favorite toy, his treasure! Not rubbish!”
Jasmine was unable to breathe, choking and coughing as fear filled her eyes.
In a panic, she quickly told Shawn how the rubbish in this hospital was all piled together, and that it might not have been
collected yet.
With that, Shawn let go of her neck and practically flew out of the ward.
Jasmine rubbed her neck and stared at the direction he left in, venom filling her gaze.
I stayed there, not leaving my son.
I didn’t care what Shawn was going to do at all.
Besides, I didn’t particularly need to go, anyway. I’d find out through the rumor mill.
The entire afternoon, the doctors and nurses that passed by all talked about the same thing–how the great CEO with over a billion in assets, the prideful man who didn’t even spare a glance at them when he passed by, was digging through the trash like a
homeless man.
“Gosh, rubbish in a hospital isn’t just filthy, he could get infected by the things that were used by patients!”
“He’s looking for his son’s precious toy car, I hear! Gosh, what a wonderful father!”
One of the nurses checked her phone and gasped.
“Mr. Dawson just announced that he’d give a million dollars to anyone who finds the toy car, even if it’s just a piece!”
