Minnie clutched my hand tighter and tighter. “Does Dad like Clara more? But she bullied me. I don’t like her! Why does Dad stay
with her all the time? Why doesn’t he like me?”
She was still at the age when a child longs for their father’s love. Yet, her own father had given all his love to another girl, leaving
her behind without a second thought. He refused to glance at her when she was sick and dying. Even an adult would struggle with
that kind of betrayal.
I wrapped Minnie in my arms and looked her straight in the eye. “You are a treasure, Minnie. Your father is a fool, easily
manipulated by two women. His love is worthless. The only love that truly matters is mine. No matter what happens, I will always
be with you.”
