Juliet and I waited at the courthouse until the evening. Yet, Soren and Zach didn’t show up or answer their phones.
“Those bastards! What a waste of these heels I’m wearing!” Juliet scoffed.
Juliet should have worn flats because she was still in recovery. However, Zach was roughly her height. She wanted to look down
on Zach and make herself seem superior, so she forced herself to wear heels.
Now, she sat on the sidewalk and spewed a bunch of curses because her feet hurt.
I massaged her feet, finding her pitiful yet amusing. “It’s okay. We can still file for a divorce even without them.”
That was when a car sped over from afar. It screeched a small distance away from us before finally stopping. Soren and Zach soon
stepped out from inside the car.
The two hung their heads low like prisoners of a defeated army. They dragged their feet, taking forever to approach me and Juliet.
It was like they thought they could delay things.
However, things had already gotten this far. They couldn’t change the inevitable.
“Come on.” I helped Juliet put on her shoes. Then, we headed toward the courthouse.
The men remained on the spot. They stared at us miserably as if they were unwilling to be abandoned by us.
“Eliza, can you really not give me another chance?” Soren asked, his face twisting into a pained expression. “I understand that
I’ve royally messed up this time. I really do!”
