was clear of the road.
A screech of tires pierced the air as another car skidded to a stop inches from me. If the driver had been any slower, I would’ve been crushed.
Behind me, there was a deafening crash. the Carter family’s car smashed through the guardrail, tumbling over the edge. It hit the water below with an explosion that lit up the sky.
George didn’t make it out.
I borrowed a phone from a passerby and called Benjamin. He showed up fast, with the police right behind him. After that, I was taken to give a statement.
So, yeah–on the day of the college entrance exams, I sat in an interrogation room, answering questions. Thanks, Ruth.
Benjamin was furious. “We will find out who’s behind this. And when we do, they won’t get away with it!”
I shook my head, keeping my thoughts to myself. The police wouldn’t find anything. And even if they did, Ruth would just use Chad’s influence to sweep it all under the rug.
If I wanted justice, I’d have to handle it myself.

In my last life, as Chad’s right–hand woman, I knew every weak spot in his empire.
So, Heaked just enough key details to the market–secrets he’d buried at any cost. The kind that could topple everything if exposed.
Then, I waited.
I knew why Ruth tried to kill me. She thought I was useless now, just another expendable woman in Chad’s orbit. But if his business crumbled? She’d have no choice but to come crawling back.

Ruth stormed into the room, her expression twisted with anger and desperation. She tried to act cool, saying she’d

been drunk and didn’t mean what she said. She even faked some sympathy, asking if I was feeling okay.
I didn’t play along. I just smirked. “Panicking, aren’t you, Ruth? Chad’s empire is crumbling, and your dream of being a rich socialite? It’s about to go up in flames.”
Her jaw tightened, but she forced herself to stay calm. “You worked with Chad in your last life. You know his business better than anyone. Tell me what to do! If I can save him now, Irina won’t stand a chance against me!”
This was it–the moment I’d been waiting for.
Speaking softly, I said, “You’ve heard of Pedro Lowe, right? Get him on Chad’s side. Make him… happy. Really happy. Once he’s in, Chad’s troubles will disappear.
“And don’t stop there–Finley Bart, Robert Dover. The more, the better. If you go all out for Chad, he’ll see how much you love him. Who knows? He might even be so touched he proposes.”
Her brows knit together, hesitant. “Really? I should probably check with Chad first.”
I grabbed her wrist. “No. Don’t ask him. I’ve known Chad for years–I know him better than anyone. He loves surprises, especially from women.”
She studied me, her doubt wavering. Then, her expression hardened. “Alright.”
I let her wrist go and watched her leave, a cold smile curling on my lips.
She was just as foolish as she’d been in the last life.
Slowly, I opened my desk drawer, revealing a sleek, embossed letter. It was from Hemington University–my acceptance had arrived that morning.
