Liam’s face turned ashen.
Taking a deep breath, I said, “Leave. There will never be anything between us again. And next time you see me during the holidays, remember your place.”
Liam tried to step forward, but I stopped him. “No matter how hard you try, I’ll never look back.”
I had already made my choice. I didn’t know how long this arrangement with Sigmund would last, but at that moment, I realized being with him wasn’t so bad.
Liam’s face grew pale as he stumbled away, looking utterly defeated. Watching his retreating figure, I let out a long sigh of relief.
When I returned inside, I was surprised to find Sigmund there as well.
“You said you weren’t coming,” I said, startled.
“The meeting got canceled, so I thought I’d drop by.‘
My mom lit up the moment she saw him, tapping me on the shoulder. “You silly girl, this is his mother–in–law’s house–he’s welcome anytime!”
She hurried off to fetch another set of utensils, clearly thrilled.

Meanwhile, Sigmund glanced at me and said, “Don’t worry, Liam won’t be bothering you again.”
I blinked in surprise. “What do you mean?”
“I’ve transferred him to a branch office abroad. If he has so much free time to cause trouble, he might as well spend it learning something useful.”
My jaw dropped. That explained why Liam had shown up so desperate earlier.
“What’s wrong? Feeling sorry for him?” Sigmund asked, amusement flickering in his eyes.
“Of course not! Don’t be ridiculous. I’ve already made myself clear–I’m not looking back.”
Sigmund chuckled lightly.
Our relationship felt strange to me. He had helped me avoid complete humiliation at my wedding and stood by me when I demanded accountability.
Yet now, things felt surreal. What exactly was our dynamic?
He had registered the marriage with me and given me shares in the family company, yet he never crossed any boundaries. And somehow, whatever I wanted to do, he always supported me without question.
The meal left me feeling uneasy. What was Sigmund after?
My family’s small company wasn’t worth his attention or schemes.
Forget it. There was no point in overthinking.
After dinner, Sigmund went to my room to rest. The moment he walked in, he leaned lazily against the headboard, his relaxed demeanor catching me off guard.
“I didn’t expect you to be so… laid–back in private!” I said, unable to hold back a laugh.

“What, you don’t like it? Or are you still holding on to something?”
His words made me freeze. Taking a deep breath, I looked at him. “I’m not!”
