Melanie lost her composure immediately, screaming from across the room, “Are you
all crazy or blind? I’m Mrs. Yarbrough!
She’s the one you should be taking away! Let go of me! You’ll regret this when Ezra hears about it!”
Normally, the security guards would be wary of her name–dropping Ezra. But things were different now. Ezra wasn’t as
important as Shermaine.
The school staff and security were all well aware of Shermaine’s status, though they kept it confidential for her safety and
privacy.
After Melanie and her child were dragged off as Melanie hurtled insults, the head of security approached Shermaine with a
respectful greeting.
“Professor Stout, Melanie is a recent hire, so she doesn’t know the rules. Should I help you report this to the dean?”
Shermaine lazily lifted her eyelids. “No need. I understand the dean’s situation. Since Ezra pushed her into this role, there’s no
real harm in keeping her around as long as she doesn’t cause much trouble. I won’t be here for long anyway.”
“Understood.” The head of security nodded quickly.
It was likely that Melanie hadn’t expected that her job was only secure because of Shermaine’s word.
With the nuisance gone, Shermaine felt the air around her finally clear. She thought it was all settled, that she wouldn’t be
bothered for the rest of the month.
But soon, Shermaine realized she had been wrong
That afternoon, as she reached the school gate, she noticed a crowd up ahead. At the center of it all were a few familiar faces-
Melanie, holding her child, and several of her former students.
These students now clustered around Melanie, treating her like the center of attention.
Shermaine remembered the rumors she’d heard earlier in the day. It seemed the people who used to curry favor with Melanie had
gained plenty of perks. So Melanie’s haughty attitude in front of Shermaine wasn’t out of nowhere.
Shermaine glanced briefly at the group before turning away. She had no interest in the gossip surrounding her.
She hadn’t gotten very far, though, when Melanie’s voice rang out again.
“Ms. Stout, why are you leaving as soon as you see us? Don’t you want to catch up?”
Melanie’s heels clicked sharply as she approached, her eyes gleaming with both smugness and malice.
She remembered the embarrassment she’d suffered this morning because of Shermaine, and she was determined to get even.
Shermaine’s former students trailed behind Melanie like loyal followers, surrounding Shermaine once they got close. They all
called her “Ms. Stout” with a hint of mockery, and their faces showed little respect.

A few of them were former students Shermaine had helped. Now, they stood with Melanie, joining in the effort to insult
Shermaine.
“Ms. Stout, you disappeared for over four years. Where did you go? Did you get rich and forget about us?”
“Don’t you know? Mr. Yarbrough wanted to break up with Ms. Stout, so she just pulled the ‘disappear‘ stunt again.”
“It’s a shame, Ms. Stout. You’re too late. Mt. Yarbrough’s head and heart are filled with Melanie now.”
“Ms. Stout, if I were you, I’d be too embarrassed to stay here. You should just divorce Mr. Yarbrough so Melanie can take your place.”
Melanie, with a venomous look, chimed in, “Ezra and I have a child now. It’s laughable that someone who couldn’t win his heart still holds onto this spot.”
Shermaine raised an eyebrow, finally looking at Melanie directly for the first time.
“So, Ezra’s excuse for rejecting you is that we’re not divorced yet?”

Chapter 27
Upon hearing Shermaine’s words, Melanie’s face twisted with a fleeting look of rage. The anger and bitterness in her eyes grew
stronger.
Shermaine realized she been right all along Ezra wanted to have it both ways.
The thought of him pretending to be so deeply in love with her earlier made Shermaine’s stomach churn. It was hard to believe
sho had once been taken in by his a
act.
Melanie, clueless about Shermaine’s meaning, assumed she was simply reluctant to divorce and grew more smug
“Yes, Ezra’s exact words were that if you hadn’t left without a word and then disappeared without a trace, he would have divorced you long ago. You ran off in such a hurry because you were avoiding Ezra bringing up divorce, huh? So, all those times you acted so aloof and composed were all just an act. The truth is, you can’t let go of Ezra.”
Laughter rippled through the crowd of onlookers.
The drama between the three of them had caused quite a stir back then. Ezra had publicly admitted to his affair and the fact that Melanie had knowingly seduced a married man, but he later managed to retain his image as a devoted man. Meanwhile, Shermaine had been criticized for leaving without a word.
Now, four years later, everyone had forgotten the details of what happened. Even though Ezra and Melanie were back together
and ha
a child, many people were still defending Ezra.
They said he had made a mistake that any man might make.
They said it was understandable, especially since he and Melanie had a child now. After all, he couldn’t just walk away from his
own kid.

In the end, the blame was placed squarely on Shermaine.
“If she had been a little more charming, Ezra wouldn’t have cheated.”
“Even though he cheated, at least he apologized. Why not give him a chance to make things right?”
“Maybe Shermaine never truly loved him. All she cared about was Ezra’s money.”
There were plenty of similar comments going around.
Shermaine didn’t get angry at the mockery. Instead, she smiled faintly.
“Melanie, you’re mistaken. I divorced Ezra five years ago. So, if he doesn’t want to be with you now, that’s his issue. It has
nothing to do with me. You’re in the wrong place if you’re trying to claim your territory. I told you years ago that you can have
him, a man who’s unfaithful and disloyal. After all, you’re the only one who would treat the man I don’t want like a treasure.
Shermaine wasn’t one to talk much, but when she did, it was always sharp, cutting sarcasm.

Melanie’s face turned pale with fury. She marched toward Shermaine, aiming to slap her.
But just as her hand was about to strike, voices rose from the crowd.
“Hey, isn’t that Mr. Yarbrough?”
“It is Mr. Yarbrough is here!”
“He’s definitely here to pick up Melanie. I wonder how he’ll react when he sees Shermaine causing trouble for her.”
“Well, he’ll probably give her a piece of his mind. One woman disappeared without a word for over four years, while the other stuck by him and had his child. If you were him, who would you choose?”
This is going to be good!”
The crowd parted as a figure emerged–it was none other than Ezra.
He was dressed in a custom–made, expensive suit, exuding elegance and charm. His steps were quick as he made his way toward Melanie and Shermaine.
