Melanie nearly couldn’t hold back her smile. She quickly moved forward while holding the child, and in a sweet, high–pitched voice, called out, “Ezra, why did you take so long to get here? If you were any later, your son and I would’ve been bullied.”
But to her surprise, Ezra didn’t stop beside her. He walked straight past, heading for Shermaine.
Ezra’s handsome face was filled with concern, his usually indifferent dark eyes now showing rare humility. He lowered his voice as he cautiously spoke to Shermaine, “Shermaine, she didn’t do anything to you, did she? I’m sorry I’m late. Don’t be angry.
Whatever it is, I’ll explain it at home. I’ll do anything you want.”
The atmosphere suddenly grew tense and awkward.
The bystanders, who were too far away to hear Ezra’s words, could still tell something unusual was happening from his
submissive posture in front of Shermaine. A few people who were closer exchanged shocked glances, their faces a mix of panic
and disbelief. They hadn’t expected Ezra to treat Shermaine this way.
Melanie’s face turned red with humiliation. She snapped at the onlookers, “What are you looking at? Get lost!”
Shermaine looked at Ezra, who was drawing closer, and took a few steps back, her brow furrowing in distaste. She raised her
voice.
“Since you’re here, let’s settle things once and for all. You never gave Melanie a title. Why is that? Is it because you didn’t divorce me, or is it because you didn’t want to?”
Ezra’s face paled slightly, but it wasn’t from anger–it was from hurt and disappointment. He spoke reluctantly, “Do you really
want me to publicly admit we’re already divorced?”
“Yes,” Shermaine replied without hesitation. “That’s the only way you can make me happy.”
Hearing that something could make Shermaine happy, Ezra no longer hesitated. He announced, his voice steady, “I don’t have
any feelings for Melanie. The only reason I’m still kind to her is because we share a child together. I’ve only ever cared for
Shermaine, even though she and I divorced five years ago. But that doesn’t matter.” Ezra’s gaze locked onto Shermaine with deep
affection. “I’m willing to wait for her, to wait for her to look back at me. I’ll wait my entire life if I have to.”
Melanie’s eyes widened in shock. Shame and frustration filled her, but even more so, there was heartbreak. Her voice grew shrill
with emotion.
“Ezra, are you serious? If you’re still hung up on her, then what am I to you? And what about our child? Answer me!”
Ezra ignored the heartbroken Melanie, turning to snatch the little boy from her arms. As soon as the kid was separated from
Melanie, he burst into loud, anxious cries.
But Ezra seemed oblivious. His eyes were still fixed on Shermaine as he spoke with earnestness, “Shermaine, I know you resent me for what happened all those years ago. I know I took a child away from you. But it’s alright. If you want, this child can be yours. I kept Melanie and the baby for this day. I really don’t love her. If you don’t want this child, that’s fine too. We’ll have our
own children in the future.”
The cold reality of Ezra’s words hit Melanie like a punch to the gut, leaving her teetering on the edge of collapse
Shermaine couldn’t help but glance at Melanie, who looked utterly defeated. There was pity in her eyes, but no sympathy
This was what Melanie deserved. She should have thought of this when she was scheming to win Exra over
A man she had won over with petty tricks would leave her in the same manner.

Chapter 29
Under Ezra’s hopeful gaze, Shermaine gently lifted her hand and touched the crying boy’s small face.
Ezra’s eyes visibly lit up with excitement. He thought, perhaps, Shermaine had already forgiven him.
But what he didn’t expect was what came next.
“In the past, I did want to have a child with you,” Shermaine said as she slowly pulled her hand away, her tone light yet cold,
carrying an air of indifference. “But then, I realized something. I’m actually glad we didn’t have a child. If we had one, it would
have only tied me to you longer.”
Shermaine smiled at him, but the smile was filled with distance and coldness.
“Looking back, I don’t even hate you for drugging me and causing me to lose the child. In fact, maybe I should thank you.”
“No, that’s not what happened,” Ezra choked, the weight of regret and pain threatening to overwhelm him. “I never meant to
cause you to miscarry. It’s all my fault. If you really feel nothing for me anymore, why did you leave me all those things to
remember you by? And don’t worry about Melanie. I’ve already talked to the dean. I’ll make sure she leaves the school. I won’t
have anything more to do with her from now on. I’m a changed person. I’m truly remorseful. Won’t you give me a chance-”
“I won’t,” Shermaine replied firmly. “Even if every other man in this world were gone, I still wouldn’t look back. Ezra, the fact
that I don’t hate you right now is just because of the memories we shared.”
“Do you really not love me anymore?” Ezra’s eyes turned bloodshot, his jaw clenched tight.
Shermaine enunciated with certainty, “Ezra, I don’t love you anymore. I don’t love you now, and I won’t love you in the future.”
A bitter surge of emotions swelled within Ezra. He wanted to argue, to explain things weren’t what she thought, but as his words
met her cold gaze, they withered into nothingness.
The frustration that had been building up inside him finally deflated.
He clenched his fist, and after a moment of helplessness, his voice took on a tone of self–mockery.
“Then let me drive you home. Don’t worry. This is the last time. After that, I won’t bother you again.”
Shermaine, however, refused. “No need. I’ll go back on my own.”
She turned away and walked off.
Ezra stared at her retreating figure, his brow furrowing as a sense of helplessness washed over him, the feeling of everything slipping out of his control.
In a rush, he put the boy down and hurried after Shermaine. He ignored the child’s cries and didn’t even glance back at him.
To Melanie, his actions were nothing short of heartless.
As she watched the child continue to cry, something dark flickered in her eyes. Hatred began to swell within her.
She hated Shermaine, she hated that this child wouldn’t get Ezra’s love, and she hated Ezra for his coldness.
If she had known things would turn out like this, she never would have accepted Exra’s advances in the first place.
She wasn’t the only one at fault, was she?
Why should those two get to move on with their lives while she had nothing left?
Shermaine had planned to take a taxi home, but before she could, Ezra took her hand, pulling her toward his car.

None of them noticed, though, that across the street, Melanie was watching them from her car, her gaze filled with venom.
