Jane appeared relieved. “Yes! I’ve been looking for it for a very long time. Turns out it was here!”
I was mildly impressed by her acting skills, She could win an Oscar for this!
Soon, it was the day of our presentation.
Every group went up to upload their PowerPoint slides and test the equipment.
When I opened our PowerPoint slides, it was not my group’s content.
“Hey, why are their slides the same as the other group’s?” some sharp students immediately asked.
“But they wrote their names on the slide! Who’s the copycat?”
A member from Jane’s group immediately came over and questioned me, “Please explain why you have our slides.”
I calmly looked at Taylor. “I’ve sent the final version to our group chat. You have a copy of our slides, right?”
Taylor opened the file from her end, and it was obviously very different.
The lecturer approached us to understand the situation and immediately called the dean over.
“Is this your pen drive?” the dean impatiently asked me.
Another member from Jane’s group instantly yelled, “It’s hers! I’ve seen it in her pencil case!”
I did have a pen drive that I usually kept in my pencil case.
However, I calmly answered, “I was in my dorm working on our PowerPoint slides the past few days. I was also recording content to be posted online, so I have video evidence. My camera is untouched in my dorm room, so you can have a look.”
With that, the dean followed us back to our dorm room. I took out my camera and started playing the video, but one part seemed a bit odd.
The day before, I had taken a shower at around 6 p.m. However, the video showed a person who looked like me taking the pen drive out. This person had a jacket covering her head, and two minutes later, she put it back.

Due to the angle, we could not see the person’s face.
“I saw you wearing that jacket yesterda

“Stealing another person’s research is a serious offense!” The dean had already made up her mind at this point.
So, I tried to save myself.
I looked at Penny, who was standing beside me. “After you returned yesterday, you were filming yourself dancing on the balcony, right?”
Penny blinked and nodded.
“Could you let us watch that video?” I asked.
After I came out of the shower, I realized that Penny was already back.
I only glanced at the open balcony curtains, so I was not sure if she managed to film the inside of the room.
Thankfully, I was lucky.
Everyone could clearly see Jane returning and ensuring that I was not around. Then, she took out a similar jacket from her closet, took my pen drive from my desk, and quickly left the room after she returned it.
Jane became anxious. She really thought that she would not get caught, so she did not come up with a cover story.
“No, I just wanted to play a prank on her. I didn’t mean to blow things up like this…”
