I gently pushed his hand aside, my voice calm. “There’s nothing to misunderstand. You and Ms. Ferguson are clearly a perfect match. You belong together.”
But he wouldn’t let go, his voice pleading. “I know you’re angry, and I understand why. It’s because you saw my father’s pendant
with Zara, right? Please, let me explain!”
I glanced at my phone screen–my ride was five minutes away.
I stood there, watching him, unfazed.
“Last time I went to Zara’s house to treat her, my necklace snapped, and the pendant ended up there. She offered to fix it and give
it back, but I never thought she’d wear it around her neck. If it bothers you that much, I’ll never wear it again. Okay?”
Just then, my phone buzzed with a reminder that my ride had arrived. I looked at Jason, his face twisted in distress, and I couldn’t
help but let out a cold laugh.
“Why are you making such a scene out here? Don’t you care about embarrassing yourself?”
When I was pregnant, I always went to my prenatal appointments alone. The gynecologist at the hospital would praise Jason for being so selfless, always working with patients and never by my side, not even during my pregnancy.
It wasn’t until I fainted from low blood sugar during one of my fasting checkups and was helped into the hospital cafeteria that I
saw Jason eating with a female patient.
I waddled up to him, confronting him with a question, and he didn’t even move to help me. He just stared at me coldly.
“This is a hospital. Don’t make a scene like a crazy woman. If you don’t care about embarrassing yourself, then fine, but I do.”

Now, I returned his words back at him, and I could see his body wobble slightly, his eyes clouded with hurt and disbelief.
At that moment, my old boss called to schedule a coffee meeting
I quickly ended the call, and Jason, now frantic, blocked my way as I tried to get into the car.
“Where are you going? Let me take you.”
Annoyed, I furrowed my brow. “No, don’t waste my time. I’m meeting an old friend.”
The car sped off, and my mother sighed repeatedly before finally saying, “No matter what, honey, I’ll support whatever decision
you make.”
Two hours later, I had a productive meeting with Lucian Lanister, my former boss, and we finalized the details of my new job
starting next month.
Throughout that time, my phone buzzed incessantly, filled with missed calls and messages from Jason.
[Honey, I’m right outside the café. I’ll wait for you to come out and take you home.
[Wynter, it’s going to rain soon. When will you be back?]
By the last message, I simply turned off my phone.
In the café, the air conditioning was a bit too cold, and Lucian, ever the gentleman, draped his suit jacket over my shoulders.
When we parted ways, I was about to hand the jacket back to him when suddenly, Jason appeared from the shadows, grabbed the
jacket, and threw it into Lucian’s face.
