At the hospital, the doctor, Gregory Chase, look one look at Macie’s Injuries and began berating ber for not taking care of herself. The blisters on her feet had all ruptured. It could be dangerous if they were to get infected.
Macie kept her head low, keeping her silence as she stared at her painfully red and battered feet.
It wasn’t that she didn’t take care of herself.
It was just that some people refused to leave her alone.
Gregory did more checks and found that her lower back and tallbone were severely bruised. There were injuries on her arms as well, and her eyes were swollen from crying. Throughout the entire examination, she did not say a single word, nor was there anyone accompanying her,
The doctor could guess what had happened. “You need an X–ray of your lower back. Let’s get you hospitalized. You shouldn’t go home for a few days.”
“Thank you, Dr. Chase,” Macie replied hoarsely.
One of the nurses helped her handle the hospitalization procedure. Macie couldn’t lie on her back, so she had to lie on her stomach on the hospital bed, with a pillow propping up her shins to ensure that the wounds on the back of her feet did not touch the bed.
The nurse also gave her some ointment for her wounds. A cool sensation seeped into her wounded tissue, soothing the burning pain.
Macie glanced at the time. It was 7:30 pm. She closed her eyes, feeling utterly exhausted.
She didn’t want to think about where Edward and Sharon were at that moment or how sweet and affectionate they were with each other. There was only one thought in her mind–at least they wouldn’t be able to find her. She could finally get a good night’s sleep.
Meanwhile, at 8:00 pm, Edward and Sharon finished dinner.
At 9:00 pm, Edward took Sharon shopping at luxury boutiques and bought her many gifts.
At 10:00 pm, Edward rented out the Ferris wheel by the river. When their carriage reached the highest point, fireworks exploded in the night sky while they embraced and kissed each other.
The tourists walking along the river witnessed the grand scene, marveling enviously at the romantic declaration of love. They wondered which rich man was doing this for his girlfriend.
“Ed, we should bring some food home for May. You took me out but left her at home. She must be really upset. I’m worried that she might refuse to eat,” Sharon said later in the passenger seat of Edward’s car, looking worried. She used to do that when she was upset. I always had to plead with her before she could eat.”
Naturally, she didn’t really mean to bring Macie food. She just wanted to follow Edward home so that they could continue what had been cut off earlier in the master bedroom.
“She cooked, didn’t she? She’s an adult. She won’t starve,” Edward said unhappily. His face darkened at the mention of Macie. “Why are you still worried about that evil woman? She burned you yesterday and tried to stab you today. She could’ve hurt you badly if I hadn’t arrived on time!”
Sharon was silent for a moment. Then, she said softly, “We grew up together at the orphanage. We only had each other then. No matter how badly she treats me, she’s still the closest thing I have to family.”

Edward’s heart ached for her when he heard this. He thought that Sharon was such a kind person. Macie had hurt her countless times, yet Sharon still considered her family.
“She doesn’t deserve to be your family. From now on, I am your familly,” he blurted out in a fit of protectiveness. Hearing this, Sharon turned to look at him, Joy and excitement flashing In her eyes. But soon, she lowered her gaze. “We can’t, Edward,” she said sadly. “May is your wife how. I can’t take what belongs to her.
“She was the one who took everything from you!” Edward raised his voice, “You were supposed to be my wife!” Sharon still looked sad, but on the inside, she was smirking
Edward refused to divorce Macie. Although he framed it as revenge, Sharon still did not want Macie to keep that title, so she had to force Edward to divorce Macie willingly
“I’m happy as long as you still love me. Still, May is your lawful wife at the end of the day,” Sharon said, her voice full of sorrow,
Edward instinctively wanted to say that he would divorce Macie and marry Sharon instead, but the words refused to leave him. He gripped the steering wheel tightly.
After a few seconds of silence, Sharon bit her bottom lip, resentment flashing in her eyes.
“Pull over up
ahead. I’ll get May some tacos. Those are her favorites,” she said eventually, changing the subject..
Edward, momentarily distracted, looked at her kind expression. Suddenly, he recalled how Macie had looked when she had fallen after he had pushed her into the kitchen.
For this reason or another, he stopped the car and got the food.
But things did not work out the way Sharon expected. After getting food for Macie, Edward drove her straight to the hotel instead of bringing her home.
“Get some rest. I’ll see you tomorrow,” he said gently, tucking her hair behind her ear.
Sharon forced out a smile as she watched Edward’s car leave. She gritted her teeth tightly and stomped away on her high heels.
Edward parked the car in the garage and took the elevator up. He looked down at the takeout bag in his hand, thinking about how Macie had sprayed him with the showerhead earlier.
He wouldn’t have brought food for Macie if Sharon hadn’t insisted. He felt that she deserved to starve!
He opened the door and entered the house. The living room was dark.
“Macie! What the hell’s wrong with you? Why didn’t you turn the lights on?” Edward yelled furiously.
No one answered.
Edward’s anger intensified. He turned on the lights and headed to the kitchen to set the food down. There, he found that the floor had been cleaned up–evidence that Macie was home.
With a dark expression, he went to the guest bedroom and knocked loudly, as if trying to bring the door down, and yelled Macie’s name twice.
Still, no one answered him.
Losing his patience, he got the keys and unlocked the door himself.

The door swung open with a loud bang. “What the hell are you doing in there” Edward cut himself off.
The room was empty.
“Great! Just great!” he snarled, clenching his fists. He was beyond livid at this point. “How dare she run away!”
