Chapter 15
“You were the one who was about to stab her with a kitchen knife! I saw it with my own eyes!” Edward argued. “Oh? Then did she actually get hurt?” Macle shot back.
Edward was instantly at a loss for words.
Sharon’s so–called “Injury” wasn’t even as bad as a scratch from a fingernail. She didn’t even need a band–aid.
“You say I’m making things up, but it seems to me that you’re the real expert at twisting the truth.” Macle sneered when he remained silent. “And as for your question about whether I went home last night… What’s the matter? Were you so eager for me to catch you in bed with that woman?
“You sure are self–righteous for someone who’s cheating while still married.”
Edward’s back stiffened instantly at those words. He then retorted forcefully, “I didn’t!”
“Oh? Then what left that hickey on your neck?” Macie mocked.
Edward’s hand flew to his neck. He then quickly pulled out his phone to check his reflection. Lifting his collar, he saw a hickey on the side of his neck.
“Listen to me!” Edward hurried to explain, “This isn’t-
But Macie cut him off coldly. “Save it. Just leave. Stop disturbing the other patients.”
However, he didn’t move. He still wanted to explain and clear his name, but Macie gave him no chance. With an icy gaze, she moved her hand over the call button.
“If you dare lay a hand on me again, I’ll press this button. Then we’ll settle this in court.”
“I-“Edward opened his mouth. He wanted to deny being an abuser, but the sight of Macie’s injured back was stark evidence of his crimes.
“Mr. Fowler, we should go. Everyone’s at the office, waiting for you to start the meeting.
Outside the room, Nathan, who had been listening to his boss‘ argument with Macie, walked into the ward worriedly. He intended to take Edward away for the time being.
Judging by Edward’s outburst in the ward and the way he later pounded his car in anger, Nathan was genuinely worried that the former would resort to domestic violence.
“Let go of me!” Edward shoved Nathan’s hand away. He clenched his fists as he glared at Macie.
He looked like a volcanic mountain ready to erupt at that moment. While he wanted to argue that nothing had happened between him and Sharon, seeing Macie’s indifferent expression only made his frustration grow. Nathan braced himself and stepped forward again. It took him several minutes to finally drag a reluctant Edward
away.
Edward, unable to vent his fury, suddenly lost control. With a sharp thud, he slammed his fist against the wall of the hallway.
Nathan swallowed hard in horror, thinking, “Damn. It’s a good thing I got him out of there. If he’d thrown that punch in the room, Mrs. Fowler might not have made it out alive!”
At the same time, guilt crept up on him. After all, he was the one who had brought Edward to the hospital, deceiving Macie in the process.

Chapter 15
Standing near the hospital’s entrance, Edward turned his head one last time to look at the third floor. Then, without hesitation, he strode away.
“I walked out of an important meeting halfway, only to come here and take shit from her?” Edward gritted his teeth and spat. “That ungrateful woman! I’m never looking for her ever again!”
Once inside the car, Nathan sent Macle a message of apology.
Macie replied soon after. Not only did she hold no grudges ainst him, but she also reassured him, saying that she understood that he had no choice in the matter.
Nathan was so touched that he nearly teared up. He could understand why Edward did not appreciate someone as kind as Macie.
A long silence filled the car. Then suddenly, a furious voice erupted from the backseat.
“Why the hell didn’t Macie answer my calls? I called her so many times!”
Macie didn’t trust Edward. Thus, she wouldn’t listen to his explanation. In fact, she didn’t care about him at all!
Nathan thought, “Her not picking up the phone isn’t exactly a crime. Besides, isn’t it obvious that Mrs. Fowler didn’t pick up your calls because she’s too disappointed in you?”
Naturally, he didn’t dare say that aloud. Instead, after a brief hesitation, he relayed the message from Macie. “Mr. Fowler, Mrs. Fowler said that she won’t accuse you of cheating or interfere with your relationship anymore. She also said that she won’t inform Mr. Fowler Senior. You can rest assured-”
A loud thud sounded.
Nathan immediately sat upright when he heard that. He thought that Edward’s punch had gone straight through the seat and into his back.
As Edward sat in the backseat, his eyes were wide with rage, his knuckles numb from the impact.
Macie’s words were rational, composed, and remarkably understanding. But somehow, Edward only felt more pissed.
