Nathan had brought everything Macle needed to the hospital. He respectfully placed them on the bedside table. “Thank you, and sorry to trouble you with the trip. I’ve transferred the taxi fare to you. Please accept it,” Macie said, smiling.
“You’re too kind, Mrs. Fowler, It’s my duty to run errands for you. Besides, I owe you an apology. I should have told you in advance that Mr. Fowler was coming to see you, Nathan uttered apologetically.
“You were taking orders from him, so you wouldn’t have dared to tell me anything. I completely understand.” Macie’s expression cooled the moment Edward was mentioned.
Nathan wanted to explain himself. He could have informed her beforehand, as it wouldn’t have been a big deal, but he had chosen not to.
“Thank you again. You should head back. You’re still on the clock,” Macie urged.
“Mrs. Fowler, Mr. Fowler-”
“I don’t want to hear any explanations on his behalf.” Macie cut him off directly.
“You can go now.”
Nathan fell silent before he turned away slowly. As he did, he caught a glimpse of Macie’s injured lower back and the foot she had propped up.
The injuries looked severe–painfully so. He wondered how much suffering Macie had endured.
“Please rest well. I wish you a speedy recovery.” Nathan sighed before leaving.
He didn’t accept the fare Macie had transferred and returned it instead.
As soon as he got into a taxi, his phone buzzed with a message from Edward.
“You’re skipping work without reporting in. Your full attendance bonus for the month will be deducted.”
After reading the text, Nathan felt like the sky was crashing down on him. He hurriedly typed out an explanation, only to receive a cold reply.
“Rules are rules. You are no exception, even though you are my assistant.”
When he read Edward’s message, Nathan was overwhelmed by a suffocating sense of powerlessness. He let out a desperate groan,
“I was only gone for half an hour! Shouldn’t it just be a one–day deduction?”
Moreover, he had only gone out to deliver something to Macie, who was family to Edward. Was there really to be this stingy?

If Edward and Macie ever got divorced, Nathan would absolutely support it. He felt that a petty man like Edward didn’t deserve Macie, not even with all his wealth.

“My assistant. He left work without permission.” Edward snorted coldly before adding through gritted teeth. “He can kiss this month’s attendance bonus worth 1,500 dollars goodbye.”
“That’s the right move. What if every employee starts slacking off?” Sharon agreed.
Edward didn’t respond.
Sensing that his mood still hadn’t improved since arriving Sharon bit her lip and muttered, “I’m sorry, so busy with work, yet you still made time to have dinner with me and attend my fashion show.”

“I don’t want to talk about her right now. She’s nothing but a heartless woman,” Edward growled, his anger flaring up again.
Watching his expression and hearing his words, Sharon suddenly wondered if it was all her imagination. Did Edward truly not care about Macie anymore?
“I’m going to the restroom,” Edward said, standing up.
Sharon nodded and hummed in response.
As soon as Edward left, Sharon noticed that he hadn’t taken his phone. Hurriedly, she reached for it.
She unlocked the phone on her first try. Discovering that her birthdate was still the password filled her with satisfaction and joy. It proved that he still loved her even after two years.
