Chapter 21
In the ward, Macle lay on her stomach, practicing sketching on her graphics tablet.
The phone she had placed at the side rang. Macle picked it up and took a glance at it. Then, she tossed it aside nonchalantly.
The phone stopped ringing 40 seconds later. Macle thought that the person would not call again, yet she received
another call.
Two more calls followed suit. It felt like the person was going to make another hundred phone calls relentlessly like what they had done in the morning.
Macie could not understand why Edward was calling her now.
“Does he want to ask me to make dinner for him? He knows that I’m staying at the hospital, though?” she pondered.
Macie worried that Edward might storm into the ward and chuse a ruckus again like what he did in the afternoon. She put down the stylus, took a deep breath, and answered the phone.
Before she could even say anything, the person on the other end of the line started ranting furiously.
“Why are you only picking up on the fourth call? You had better have a good reason for it.”
Macie kept silent.
“Hah! So, you do realize that it’s already the fourth call. Anyone with common sense would be able to tell that I was trying to ignore your calls,” she thought.
Even though those were her real thoughts, Macie did not say them out loud. She couldn’t be bothered to argue with Edward.
“I was in the restroom earlier. I just got back in bed,” she replied monotonously.
Edward’s anger dissipated slightly when he heard her explanation. He asked, “Did the nurse help support you when you’re moving around?”
Macie had a dumbfounded look in her eyes. She wondered what Edward was trying to achieve. Was he concerned about her?
“No,” she responded expressionlessly.
“Where are the nurses? Did you not press the call button before going to the restroom?” Edward’s voice sounded through the phone.
“What exactly are you trying to say?” Macie asked straightforwardly since she had no intention of continuing with the conversation.
There was a brief silence. It could have been a problem with the phone’s reception, or Edward simply had no idea how to respond to her.
“Why were you asking these questions? Are you worried about me?” Macie purposely phrased her questions in a way to annoy Edward.
As expected, he instantly replied exasperatedly, “What do you mean I’m worried about you? Don’t get ahead of yourself!”
Macie scoffed. There was no warmth in her eyes.

Chapter 21
She was about to hang up when she heard Edward saying, was just worried that your injury might worsen if you had slipped and fallen. Grandpa would yell at me if he found out.”
“Didn’t Nathan relay my message to you about how I wouldn’t tell Grandpa about this?” Macie asked.
Edward nearly blurted out and said that Nathan did not relay her message. Yet, he worried that Macie might contact Nathan to confirm if he was telling the truth.
Edward muttered through gritted teeth, “You’d better keep your promise. I was just trying to prevent you from going back on your word.”
Macie snickered. “Don’t worry, Mr. Fowler. I know my place, and I’ll do my part dutifully. I won’t cause you any trouble.”
She wanted to spend her remaining time here quietly and peacefully before leaving. Macie simply felt that Edward was being petty and overly cautious.
On the other hand, Edward was still waiting in the meeting room.
What Macie just said was exactly what he wanted to hear. At the same time, he could not help but feel oddly annoyed and frustrated.
“I’H hang up now if that is all,” Macie said.
“Keep the money. Otherwise, Grandpa might say that I hadn’t fulfilled my duties as your spouse. Also, you should talk to me directly about any matters moving forward. I don’t want to hear it from a third party,” Edward replied frigidly.
He ended the call after saying that. Edward glanced at his watch and noticed that it was about time for the fashion show to start. He got up and turned toward the door.
“Sharon? When did you get here?” Edward finally spotted the person standing at the side.
“I just got here. I was about to tell you that it’s time.” Sharon smiled softly.
“Let’s go then,” Edward said.
After she had led him to the venue’s entrance, Sharon said bashfully, “You need to get some good photos of me from the front row later. I’ll thank you in advance!”
“I will. Good luck with the show.” Edward’s lips lifted in a slight smile.
As she watched him enter the venue, Sharon’s smile quietly faded. She clenched her teeth whilst feeling anger rise within her.
“Did Edward just talk to May on the phone? Did he call her again? He even told May to contact him directly…” Sharon pondered.
Jealousy consumed her. She felt the need to act quickly.
