Chapter 22 

In the hospital ward, Macie had a slight frown on her forehead. She did not think much of Edward’s final remark. As she switched to another app on her phone, Macte noticed that Edward had transferred some money to her 

account. 

The transferred sum was 30,000 dollars, and he left a remark stating that it was money for her surgery. 

Macie transferred the money back to him at once. Even if she did not return it now, Edward would probably ask for the money back when they proceeded with the divorce lateron. 

Sitting in the first row, Edward noticed that Macie had sent the money back to him. He sent her a message asking about it and received a reply. 

“I won’t need surgery, so I don’t need the money.” 

Edward responded. “You’re staying at the hospital for a few days, right? Use the money for the hospital fees.” 

Macie typed another response. 

“The hospital fees won’t cost that much. I can afford it.” 

After sending the message, Macie turned off her phone and tossed it aside. 

Meanwhile, Edward sent her more messages. In his first message, he asked Macie what she meant by “not that much“. In his second message, he transferred the money to Macie’s account again and told her to just accept the 

money. 

Yet, he did not receive any new messages afterward. 

The show had started, and the models walked down the runway one after another. However, Edward simply stared at his phone. When he became sure that Macie would not reply to his messages, Edward shoved his phone into his pocket out of frustration. 

“Macie is being more and more haughty these days. I’ve given her two chances already. I’d rather die than give her the third chance!” he inwardly grumbled. 

Edward directed his gaze to the runway and crossed his legs. He looked like he was paying attention to the show. However, his eyes were unfocused. He was actually sulking 

Sharon was placed somewhere in the middle for the order of the models going up on the runway. As soon as she stepped onto the runway, she immediately spotted the man sitting in the first row. 

She thought that Edward was looking at her, so she met his gaze, smiling. Sharon only realized that Edward was staring into space when she reached the end of the runway. 

She clenched her jaw slightly. She turned around and returned backstage. Then, she secretly fetched her phone and sent him a message. 

The phone in his pocket vibrated. Edward took it out immediately, yet it was not a message from Macie. Instead, it was Sharon reminding him to take photos of her. She also told Edward that he had missed the first round of her walking down the runway. 

After sending her a quick apology, Edward snapped out of his reverie, looked toward the runway, and took out his 

camera. 

Sharon came up on the runway again. Edward smiled faintly at her this time. The two of them met each other’s gaze, and Edward managed to take her photo.

Chapter 22 

When Sharon turned around, she appeared to have stepped on her dress and fell to the floor. 

As the audience gasped in surprise, Edward rushed onto the stage, scooped Sharon into his arms, and carried her backstage. 

The 

reporters quickly sensed that the incident could provide materials to be made into headlines. They swiftly took photos as the incident occurred. Then, they tried to get the respective media outlets to upload their articles online as soon as possible. 

The fashion show director heard that one of their models lid tripped, fallen onstage, and even been carried backstage. He was positively fuming when he went looking for the model. 

Meanwhile, the other models stood by their sides, waiting to see how things would unfold. Sharon’s backstage companion was a man she deemed her future husband. Some of them even managed to discover his identity. The man turned out to be the Fowler family’s sole successor. 

The Fowler family’s status and influence came in handy at such moments. The director entered the room looking like he was about to spit fire. Yet, his expression softened tremendously after he had spoken to Edward. He even looked too eager to get on the latter’s good side.

Sitting on a chair, Sharon apologized to the director for ruining the show. 

The director looked at Sharon’s dress. The skirt was wide enough to prevent the wearer from stepping on it while turning. Yet, he had a dawning realization as he watched Edward crouch and massage Sharon’s ankle. 

Sharon was not the first person in their industry to make a name for herself or catch a powerful man’s eyes by taking a fall on stage. 

“It’s alright, Ms. Emerson. What matters is that you’re not badly injured. You should get some rest.” The director adopted a concerned expression. 

He continued, “Mr. Fowler, you can leave with Ms. Emerson first. I’ll find a replacement for her spot in the show.” 

Edward cast him a sideways glance and nodded.
