Chapter 24
“What should I do, then? I left my personal documents in my luggage. I won’t be able to stay at other hotels…“. Sharon sounded lost and helpless.
“You can stay at my place,” Edward suggested.
Sharon paused for a split second. She lowered her head and replied meekly, “That’s not a good idea. I don’t want to see you and May argue because of me again.”
“She has no right to decide that. That’s my apartment. I decide who gets to stay in my own home,” Edward said monotonously.
Her cheeks were still wet with tears as she tried to politely decline his offer. However, he ignored her refusal and took her back to his residential area.
They got into the elevator and went to the floor where Edward’s place was. Sharon followed behind him. With her finger, she wiped off the foundation applied to her neck to reveal her hickey.
The door was opened. Sharon thought she would immediately see Macie, but the place looked quite empty. She

Edward removed his jacket. “She’s not home, so you don’t have to speak so softly.”
“Where is she, then?” Sharon asked.
“She’s staying at the hospital because of a tailbone injury, Edward answered.
“Which hospital is it? I should visit her once my leg injury is healed.” Sharon had a concerned look on her face.
“That won’t be necessary. She won’t appreciate you showing her that much kindness anyway.” Edward’s face darkened when he recalled what happened in the afternoon!
“It’s a good thing that she’s not around. She won’t be a nuisance and won’t be able to harm you either.”
He walked toward the other guest room and noticed they used that space as a storeroom. He glanced over his shoulder. “You can sleep in Macie’s room tonight.”
Sharon stood by the wall, looking a bit flustered. “I’ll sleep on the couch. May doesn’t like other people touching her things…”
“I can’t possibly let a guest spend the night on the couch.” Edward expressed his disapproval.
Sharon clenched her fists when she heard the word “guest”
“It’s just one night anyway. She won’t say anything about it” Edward supported Sharon and led her into the guest
room.
He turned on the lights and helped Sharon sit down on the edge of the bed. Edward could detect a faint, pleasant scent in the room. It was the natural scent that Macie gave off.
“Get some rest. You had quite a shock tonight,” Edward comforted her. Then, he exited the room and closed the door behind him.
When the door shut, Sharon narrowed her eyes and stood up. She had thought that Edward would take her to the master bedroom, yet she was left in this room. She wondered if Edward felt wary about crossing the line because they were in his home.
She studied the room’s decor and interior. There were very few things in the room. Sharon walked over to the

She opened the closet and found just a few pieces of clothing inside. Moreover, they were clearly cheap products. bought from roadside stalls. The fabric was similar to those of tablecloths.”
Sharon felt even more pleased. She pulled the drawers open and rummaged through almost everything in the
room.
She ultimately did not find much. Then, she took a photo of herself lying on the bed and sent a text message. Meanwhile, Macie, who was at the hospital, had just put away her graphics tablet. Her phone’s notification ringtone sounded just then. After reading the message, Macie tightened her fists. She could feel her anger rising.
She wondered why Edward hadn’t just taken Sharon to the master bedroom but let the latter sleep on her bed instead. She didn’t think his actions were necessary.
Her finger hovered on the screen displaying Edward’s phone number. Three seconds later, her impulse was

She reasoned that it was merely a room. Sharon could use it however she liked. Regardless, Macie would move out of the room in another two weeks.
Macie tried to recall what she had kept inside the room. She already had Nathan bring over her laptop, the most valuable item she owned. She couldn’t recall if there was anything else…
Then, she froze.
She remembered that there was another thing. It was a diary she had kept during her high school days.
It was a record of a period Macie wished she could erase forever. It contained the untold feelings of love and yearning that the young Macie had for Edward.
