Chapter 25
Macle bit her lip as she remembered about the diary. She blamed herself for not tearing it to bits or setting it on flames beforehand. However, she figured that Sharon probably would not be able to find it since the diary was locked inside a drawer.
She eventually calmed down. When she was about to turn off her phone, a notification window for a news article popped up on the screen. The title read, “The Fowler Family’s Next Successor Rushes Onto the Stage for a Model During a Fashion Show.”
Macie stared at the screen for a brief moment.
The Fowler family’s next successor… She figured that the media could only be referring to Edward with that title.
Her gaze fell on the word “model” next. When she came to her senses, she noticed that she had tapped on the link for the news article.
A photo was displayed above the article. Edward was carrying a woman in his arms. That person buried her face in his chest. Macie recognized that it was Sharon just by looking at her side profile.
Her finger swiped on the screen. The following close–ups captured Edward shielding the woman, his glare fixed on the paparazzi. He did a great job at ensuring that the reporters could not harass the woman.
Descriptions of the incident were included in the article, too, but Macie did not read them. With an impassive face, she exited the page.
Macie was neither sad nor upset. Her tears had dried up since a long time ago. Her mouth turned up in a mocking smile.
She had called Edward and asked for his help to bring over her stuff at the time. Macie finally understood why he was so grumpy earlier. It turned out that he was on his way to meet Sharon.
Edward clearly had double standards. He yelled at Macie just because Nathan had dropped by their place as per her request. Yet, Sharon was allowed to visit and even stay over at any time.
Macie decided to stop thinking about it. She struggled to push herself up and get ready to wash herself. Yet, she received a text message just then. She saw that it was a message from Nathan.
The person involved in the incident had not said anything to her yet. On the other hand, Nathan was already trying to explain on Edward’s behalf that what was described in the news articles was just an accident and Macie should just ignore them.
Macie snickered.
“An accident? The two of them had even spent a hot night together last night,” she thought.
Macie could not be bothered to find out the truth. She did not reply to Nathan and simply tossed her phone aside.
Meanwhile, Nathan received news of an urgent situation at the Fowler Group’s office building just as he was about to get off work. He quickly headed to the PR department to assist in handling the issue.
He sent Macie a message to explain the situation first while hurrying toward the other department. However, he did not receive any replies from her.
He sighed before thinking, “Mr. Fowler must have hurt Mrs. Fowler’s feelings. He is such a terrible man. He got
work early to watch a fashion show that his ex–girlfriend was involved in.
“He couldn’t even make time to bring Mrs. Fowler her medical card. He deducted my bonus for excellent attendance even though I did the favor for her. Now, even his scandals have become the most searched news online.

Nathan could go on and on about his complaints about Edward. He let out another sigh. Then, he reported the progress to Edward in real–time as they tackled the issue.
At home, Edward finally checked his phone after he finished his shower. The news articles had already been taken down from the internet by then.
Edward furrowed his brows. The tople became the number half an hour. He could not help wondering if someone had
ne most searched local entertainment news in just hand in making that happen.
Edward instructed Nathan to keep digging. At the same ting, he sent Sharon a message to let her know that the issue had been taken care of.
While he was blow–drying his hair, a thought occurred to him.
He wondered if Macie had also seen the news since the incident was one of the top trending news online.
For some reason, Edward felt a little anxious and uneasy. He stopped drying his hair. Instead, he grabbed his phone and opened the chat window with Macie’s name.
He kept deleting the words shortly after he had typed them out. Their conversation abruptly stopped two ago when Macie stopped replying to his messages.
“Why should I explain to her? It’s not that big of a deal anyway.” Edward pursed his lips.

He wanted to put his phone down but hesitated. After mulling over it for roughly ten seconds, he started typing on his phone again.
Just as he was about to hit send, a yelp from outside caught his ear. He tossed his phone aside and hurried out of his room right away.
“Sharon! Are you alright?” Edward rushed into the bathroom and helped her get up.
“I’m alright, Edward. I’m such a klutz. I tried to wash myself quickly, but I lost my footing,” Sharon said while leaning against him.
