Chapter 27
Chapter 27
Even though the news articles were quickly taken down, Yosef had learned of what had happened. He called from the Fowler residence early in the morning and yelled at Edward furiously.
Edward was on his way to work. He quietly listened and did not talk back while Yosef scolded him harshly.
“Macie is such a nice woman. Do you not feel guilty toward her at all? Do you not appreciate all the sacrifices she’s made in the past two years?” Yosef felt so frustrated with his grandson.
Edward pursed his lips.
“Sacrifices? Just because she’s prepared our meals? She used the washing machine to wash our clothes and the robotic vacuum cleaner to clean the floor. I was the one who had to look after her during the past two years. What’s more, she’s utterly ungrateful. She even slapped me yesterday,” he thought.
“If you really can’t appreciate her efforts… I hope you won regret this someday. There’s only two weeks left-” Yosef continued.
Edward cut him off since his patience was running out. “I need to hang up now, Grandpa. I’m driving, You forced me to marry her back then. I can give her everything except love.
He hung up after saying that. Meanwhile, Yosef let out a deep sigh.
He had initially planned on telling Edward about the contract marriage. Yet, it seemed like he did not need to bring up
the issue. He decided to set Macie free once the stipulated time was up.
After arriving at the office building in his car, Edward took an elevator to get to his floor.
His brows furrowed when he recalled Yosef saying something about there being only two weeks left. However, he did not think much of it. He figured that it was probably something insignificant. He allowed his thoughts to drift off to something else..
Yosef only mentioned last night’s incident going viral online. He did not scold Edward on other matters, which meant that Macie really did not tell Yosef about her being admitted to the hospital because of her injuries.
Edward felt an inexplicable strange sense of unease in his heart. However, this form of obedience and cooperation was exactly what he needed from Macie.
After entering his office, Edward concentrated on work to stop himself from overthinking.
In the morning, Sharon sent him a message saying that she had asked her assistant to check the situation at the hotel. Unfortunately, the paparazzi were still waiting around the area.
“Normally, the paparazzi wouldn’t show much interest in a model like me, who hasn’t garnered much attention. It must be because of what happened last night that they’re onto you now. I’m so sorry about this, Edward.”
Edward read her message. Sharon had just returned to the country and had indeed not garnered much fame yet. It was because of him that she ended up getting all this unwanted attention and harassment. He felt somewhat guilty about it.
He typed a reply and sent it, telling her to stay at his place for now. Regardless, Macie would be staying at the hospital for some time.
That night, Edward returned home after a tiring day at work He opened the door and paused when he noticed the lights in the living room were turned on. Then, he hurried toward the kitchen.
“Macie!” He stared at the familiar silhouette. Yet, as the person turned, Sharon’s face came into view.

Edward stiffened and forced a smile. “It’s you, Sharon. Sorry. I didn’t recognize you because of the clothes.” “It’s alright. I had to borrow Macle’s clothes since I didn’t bring mine. You must be exhausted. Hurry and wash your hands so you can have dinner.” Sharon beamed.
Edward nodded and walked out of the kitchen to put his jacket away.
In the kitchen, Sharon gripped the ladle’s handle tightly as she took in the disappointed look in Edward’s eyes.
“I’m not good at using the type of cooker you have in your latchen. So, I made some soup, which was the simplest to make.” Sharon served Edward a bowl of soup at the dining table.
“Your foot injury isn’t fully healed. You didn’t have to do this,” Edward responded.
He froze at that moment. It was because…
Macie had suffered even more severe injuries to her legs. Moreover, she had injured her tailbone. Yet, he had forced her to cook up a feast two days ago.
With such comparisons, the difference in his treatment of Macie and Sharon was apparent. Edward pressed his lips together and dropped his gaze, concealing the mixed emotions he was feeling inside.
“I don’t want to stay here for free. May happens to be away, so I’ll help take care of you.” Sharon smiled softly. She did not notice that Edward was spacing out.
