Chapter 35
At 10:00 am, Macie went downstairs to buy groceries and prepared exactly what a certain someone had requested
-three dishes, not one less. She delivered them to the company on time.
This was the first time in her two years of marriage that she had stepped into a “public setting“. She had no idea what kind of whim had struck Edward, but she planned to simply leave the food at the front desk.
After explaining her reason for being there, the receptionis saying, “Please leave before I call security. We don’t allow
gave her a scrutinizing and hostile look before related personnel to visit our company.”
Macie pressed her lips together and briefly remained silent before taking out her phone to send Edward a message. However, when she opened the chat, she hesitated and called Nathan instead.
After she stepped outside to call Nathan, she exchanged a few brief words and then waited for him to handle it.
Inside the CEO’s office, Edward’s expression darkened as he watched Nathan hang up the call. His eyes turned icy as he demanded angrily, “Why did she call you again?”
Not only had she not called him, but she hadn’t even replied to any of his messages.
Nathan, sensing the chill up his spine, replied professionally, “Perhaps Mrs. Fowler thought that you were meeting and didn’t want to disturb you. Meanwhile, I’m your subordinate. It’s my duty to run errands.”

Edward wasn’t buying it this time. Clenching his teeth, he glared at his phone and snapped, “Then why couldn’t she just call me first to check?”
Nathan silently thought, “Sir, you asked Mrs. Fowler to deliver your food, but you didn’t even tell me to inform the front desk to let her in.”
“Mr. Fowler, should I go down to get her-” Nathan began, only to be cut off.
“She has legs, doesn’t she? Let her come up by herself.”
Nathan was left speechless.
Even as he said this, Edward was already dialing Macie’s number. It rang for several seconds before she picked up.
“Can’t you come up on your own? Is Nathan your assistant or mine? What right do you have to order him around?” Edward growled.
There was a three–second silence before Macie responded emotionlessly, “The front desk doesn’t allow outsiders
The flames of Edward’s anger were instantly doused. He hesitated before asking again, “Why didn’t you just say who you are?”
“What should I say? Does the front desk know who ‘Macie Smith‘ is?” She sneered.
“You could…” Edward froze.
Macie could have said that she was Mrs. Fowler, and the receptionist would have called Nathan, who would have let her through. But…
He couldn’t bring himself to say it.
After all, he had never acknowledged Macie’s existence–not in public or even at home.
On the other end of the line, Macie heard Edward’s long silence and scoffed internally.

She didn’t know what she could have said. She considered she should have said that she was his wife but knew better than to claim that title.
“You could have just called me,” Edward finally muttered.
Speechless, Macie thought, “Didn’t I already call Nathan? Oh, right. Nathan is his assistant, and only he can use him. Ten more days. Once they pass, I won’t have to serve this trash of a man anymore.”
Edward’s voice came through the phone again. “I’ve told Nathan to inform the front desk. Take the elevator straight to the top floor.”
Macie frowned, not wanting to go up to see him. However, the call had already ended.
“Apologies, miss. I hope I did not offend you earlier. Please come in,” the receptionist said, bowing while wearing a forced smile.
“None taken. You were just doing your job. You have a pleasant attitude,” Macie replied.
The receptionist was touched.
At first, she had assumed that Macie was just another gold digger trying to cling to Edward. But then she noticed Macie’s simple, modest outfit and had only asked her to leave rather than saying anything too harsh.
Now, upon a second look, she saw that Macie carried herself with quiet composure and had striking yet elegant features.
Especially considering Nathan had personally instructed her to show proper respect, the receptionist couldn’t help but wonder who Macie was.
