Chapter 37
Edward convinced himself to let it go and focused on his meal.
The moment he took the first bite, the deliciousness of the grilled honey balsamic ribs nearly overwhelmed him. The happiness and satisfaction he felt peaked instantly.
Listening to the increasingly rapid sounds of eating beside her, Macie couldn’t help but glance at him with an expression full of unconcealed disdain. She would have thought a pig was wolfing down its food if she didn’t know
better.
The affection she once had for him was now replaced by repulsion. But for now, she had no choice but to stay in this temporarily disadvantageous situation.
Three dishes, one bowl of macaroni, and a soup–Edward finished everything in just ten minutes. Fully satisfied, he wiped his mouth and hands with a wet tissue.
Meanwhile, Macie had already stepped forward, swiftly collecting the empty containers before turning to leave without hesitation.
Seeing her so eager to leave, Edward couldn’t help but ask, “Have you eaten?” He suddenly felt a little guilty about eating so fast that he hadn’t even left anything for her.
Macie didn’t answer and was already at the door.
“Hey, I’m talking to you.” Edward raised his voice slightly.
“I’ve eaten,” Macie replied coldly, not even looking back as she shut the door behind her.
“Why has she become so temperamental after staying in the hospital? Seriously. Why are women so difficult?” he muttered, venting his frustration.
Then, he found himself reminiscing.
Macie hadn’t always been like this, especially in the early days of their marriage. Back then, she had been the gentle and considerate woman who always smiled at him and treated him warmly.
Now, she was so cold that she never smiled at him again.
Edward convinced himself that she was just still mad. Given some time, she would return to how she used to be.
Meanwhile, as soon as Macie got downstairs, her phone pinged with a message. It was from “him” placing his dinner order.
She rolled her eyes, wishing he would keep eating until his stomach burst.
After finally getting to eat the meal he had craved for half a month, Edward was in an excellent mood. His work efficiency skyrocketed in the afternoon. The project manager–who had braced himself for a scolding–was stunned when he emerged unscathed.
“Did Mr. Fowler receive some good news today?” he cautiously asked Nathan.
Nathan paused for two seconds before nodding
Curious, the manager pressed for details.
Nathan simply replied mysteriously, “He had a good lunch.

“It’s that good? Which restaurant was it? I should try it sometime,” the project manager mused.
“It’s exclusive,” Nathan replied, his smile knowing.
The manager was stunned for a second before something clicked in his mind. His expression shifted to one of shock and realization.
“Is Mr. Fowler really involved with that D–list, barely known model?” he wondered.
Since Edward had mentioned earlier that he would be coming home late, Macle hadn’t rushed to prepare dinner. She was so focused on practicing her drawing in the living room that she lost track of time–until she suddenly heard the door lock turning.
To her surprise, it was Edward instead of Sharon who returned.
Seeing her confused gaze, Edward changed his shoes and explained somewhat awkwardly, “I got off work early today.”
Macie didn’t respond and only busied herself with putting away her laptop and graphics tablet.
“What are you drawing?” Edward took off his coat and approached her.
But the moment his eyes landed on her screen, Macie quickly shut it.
“What’s there that I’m not allowed to see?” Edward asked, displeased.
“It’s nothing.” Macie picked up her laptop and avoided him by moving around the other side.
Edward extended an arm to block her. “I saw you drawing last time, too. You even had Nathan bring your laptop to the hospital. Why have I never known that you liked to draw?”
