Chapter 38
Macie turned her head slightly to look at him, her expression devoid of emotion as she asked, “Have you ever cared about me before?”
Edward was instantly at a loss for words, his expression frozen In place.
Macie then retumed to the small guest bedroom, leaving the man standing there, lost in thought, with a trace of guilt and self–reflection in his gaze.
Since Edward had returned home early, Macie decided to head out to buy groceries.
“Where are you going?” Edward called out as he watched her prepare to leave right after he had just returned.
“The supermarket,” Macie answered flatly.
In the past, Edward never cared about such things. He barely even spoke to her. But that day, for some reason, he seemed unusually talkative.
After getting her response and noticing the fabric tote bag in her hand, Edward obediently put his shoes back on and silently followed her out.
Macie didn’t turn around when she heard his footsteps behind her. When they reached the elevator, she assumed that he was going out for his errands until he followed her all the way into the supermarket.
She thought that he was there to buy his things, but…
The unwanted tag–along showed no signs of leaving. Wherever she went, he followed. If she turned left, so did he. If she moved right, he was immediately beside her.
Macie was left utterly speechless.
Not only that, but as she picked out vegetables, Edward randomly tossed wilted, old, or hollow ones into her bag.
Finally unable to hold back, Macie clenched her fists and asked, “What exactly are you trying to do?”
“What do you mean? I’m just grocery shopping with you,” Edward replied as if it was the most natural thing in
the world.
Macie was briefly silent. This version of Edward felt completely unfamiliar. She wondered if the sun was rising from the west that day.
If this had been in the past, Macic would have thought it was sweet for a husband and wife to shop for groceries together after work.
But now, all she could think was that Edward had lost his mind and needed a doctor.
As she had long given up on him, there was no room for wishful thinking. Macie indifferently said, “Mr. Fowler, you don’t know the first thing about grocery shopping. Please, don’t give me a harder time.”
Watching Macie take out all the vegetables he had picked, Edward tried to justify himself. “Well, how was I supposed to know which ones were good?
“What about this one? This tomato looks fine.” He picked one up and, with an extremely serious expression, questioned Macie.
Macie looked at him, their eyes meeting.
Edward’s gaze, fixed on hers, carried an emotion Macie couldn’t decipher.

However, the atmosphere lasted less than two seconds before Edward’s phone rang.
“Sharon? Why are you calling?” Edward answered.
Macie turned and walked away the moment she heard that
Still holding the tomato, Edward went after her. He said into the There’s no need to go to a restaurant. Macie will cook.
hore, “Dinner together? Let’s just eat at home.
“I already went home. I’m buying groceries right now. I got off work early today.
“Pick you up? Sure. Wait for me.”
The short conversation ended. Then Edward told Macle, “I’m going to pick Sharon up. Just go straight home after you’re done. You don’t have to wait for me.”
Macie didn’t turn her head. Her expression remained the same from beginning to end.
She quietly sneered. She realized that the reason why Edward suddenly wanted to go grocery shopping with her was to prepare dinner for Sharon.
At that moment, inside a model’s dressing room, Sharon’s expression twisted in contempt after hanging up the call, her eyes flashing with malice.
Was Edward grocery shopping with Macie? Wasn’t he supposed to despise her?
As Sharon thought back to how she had stayed in his home for half a month with absolutely no progress, and how Edward pushed her away every time she tried to get intimate with him, her frustration only grew.
“Macie, it looks like I need to get rid of you once and for all, Sharon quietly vowed.
