Edward froze, staring at her.
“If we get divorced, Sharon will have a chance with you. You can be with her forever,” Macle said calmly, looking him straight in the eyes.
Her cold voice and indifferent expression unsettled Edward, It felt as though he was nothing but a stranger to
Macie.
In the past, her eyes had always been full of love for him. No matter how badly he treated her, she would only try harder to please him. But now….
“Divorce? Weren’t you the one who had seliemed to marry me in the first place? And now, you think you can leave just like that? Do you think that I am at your beck and call? Edward roared in anger, though he didn’t realize the panic buried within it.
Macie leveled a calm look at him and said, “You love Sharon, don’t you? If we divorce, you can marry her.”
She was originally planning to bring this up in the last few days of the contract, but the opportunity presented itself now.
Bringing it up early had its advantages, too. Getting it over as soon as possible would save time for all parties involved. She just hadn’t expected Edward to refuse and be so angry. She didn’t understand why.
“Don’t even think about divorce,” Edward said viciously, his eyes cold. “You should know this. You’ll die before you can be free of me!”
Macie bit her lip, deep sorrow welling in her heart.
So this was why he wouldn’t divorce her.
He just wanted to torment her forever, imprison her, and make her a maid at his side while he openly cheated on her with Sharon.
Macie turned away, her eyes burning with unshed tears.
Just how much did Edward hate her?
They had been married for two years. Even if Edward didn’t like Macie at all, shouldn’t he still be thankful to her for her efforts in maintaining the marriage over the years?
How could he hate her this much?
Sharon watched the entire exchange from the side. She hadn’t expected Edward to refuse the divorce and explode with anger. Even though his words were cruel, it almost seemed like he didn’t want to let Macie go.
She tensed up, a mix of anger and fear making her tremble. She was afraid that Edward had truly fallen in love with Macie.
“Ed, don’t be mad. It’s all my fault. I shouldn’t have said those things. I never meant to come between y she said tearfully, looking at Edward in apology.
you two,”
Sharon’s pitiful demeanor immediately made Edward snap back to his senses. He rushed up to her to comfort her. “This has nothing to do with you. Don’t cry,” he said.
As Sharon sobbed, Edward helped her to the living room and sat her down on the couch. His voice was incredibly tender as he continued coaxing her.

Over in the kitchen, Macie listened, the sound grating her cars. Edward had never been so gentle with her before. But she no longer longed for it now. All she wanted to do was leave as soon as she could. Macie composed herself and continued cooking.
Divorce was proving to be more difficult than she had imagined. She had thought that Edward would readily sign the papers, but now, she realized that she needed another an.
He might not love her, but that didn’t stop him from wanting to torment her with marriage. This was her punishment for her greed two years ago.
Meanwhile, in the living room, Edward comforted Sharon for a long time. Sharon leaned against his chest, basking in his affection as if his feelings for her had never changed.
She didn’t know why he wouldn’t agree to the divorce if that were the case. After all, Macie had already brought it up herself.
Sharon looked up, but ultimately, she did not ask Edward questions. If she did, it would seem too deliberate and might ruin the image she had carefully built.
Edward gently stroked Sharon’s back as he held her, but his eyes were distant.
He couldn’t believe that Macie had asked for a divorce and with such a cold and indifferent attitude.
He felt uneasy as if something was slipping away from him. But then he forced himself to calm down, clenching his fists.
He believed that Macie was too in love with him and that she wouldn’t really go through with the divorce. She was just trying to get his attention with this stunt.
Half an hour later, when Macie had nearly finished cooking, Sharon came into the kitchen again, belatedly offering her help. “Here, I’ll bring this out for you.”
Η
“No need,” Macie said coldly.
Sharon sneered. Out of the corner of her eye, she caught sight of the edge of Edward’s clothes, so she deliberately reached for a plate.
It was a huge plate of roast chicken that had just come out of the oven. The plate itself was still scalding hot. Sharon reached right past Macie to grab it.
Instinctively, Macie stepped back to make room, but the hot plate
The roast chicken fell straight to the floor onto Macie’s foot
slipped from Sharon’s hands at that moment.
Tears instantly sprang to Macie’s eyes from the pain. But before she could make a sound, Sharon screamed, “Ah, I’m bleeding!”
Edward instantly burst into the kitchen. From his angle, he saw Macie raising her right hand, which was wielding a kitchen knife. She looked like she was about to stab Sharon’s hand with it.
“Macie Smith! Murder is illegal! Do you want to go to jail?” Edward roared. He shoved her away furiously.
Macie was already in excruciating pain from the burn on her foot. Now, with his forceful shove, she crashed into the wall and collapsed onto the floor.
Her injury on her tailbone hadn’t even healed completely yer, and this sudden impact made the pain even more unbearable. She cried out in agony.

Edward, who had already helped Sharon up and was at the door, looked back at the sound, but all he saw were food scraps covering Macie entirely.
“There’s so much blood…” Sharon sobbed hysterically, pulling Edward’s attention back to her. He helped her over to the couch and hurriedly searched for the first–aid kit to help stop the bleeding.
When he finally wiped away the blood, the wound turned out to be nothing more than a tiny scratch. It was barely bigger than a fingernail. The bleeding had already stopped on its owIL
“I’m really scared of pain,” Sharon said, sobbing. “You knew that, Ed.”
Edward put a band–aid on her wound, then sat beside her and held her in his arms. “I know, I know you’ve been afraid of getting hurt because you were bullied at the orphanage.”
That had been the darkest time of Sharon’s life. He wished he could go back 20 years and protect her.
As Edward and Sharon embraced each other, Macie staggered out of the kitchen, holding onto the doorway for support.
She looked over at the couch. More tears blurred her vision.
Murder… Edward had actually accused her of trying to murder Sharon. Where did he even get that idea?
She didn’t even know how Sharon had gotten hurt, yet Edward put the blame solely on her. Meanwhile, her own foot had been burned by the roast chicken. More blisters appeared on the same injured foot from the day before.
Limping and hunched over in pain, she made her way slowly to the bathroom to clean herself up.
Edward looked around when he heard her footsteps. He watched her limp away, but he did not get up.
In the bathroom, Macie turned on the shower. She wanted to use warm water to clean herself up, but the water felt scalding to her skin. Biting her lip, she switched to cold water and rinsed off the food residue and grease.
The impact of the plate had broken most of her blisters. The mixture of grease and water stung her raw skin, sending waves of agonizing pain through her body.
But the pain of the flesh did not rival the pain in her heart.
Closing her eyes, Macie remembered how Edward had violently pushed her away earlier.
She thought that not loving Edward anymore was the worst she could ever feel, but she was wrong.
Now, she hated him. She hated him so much.
Why did he have to torment her like this? Why did he have to bring Sharon along to torture her even more? Did she really deserve this?
Tears streamed down her face, dripping onto the floor as she sobbed in despair.
Just then, someone stepped into the bathroom. “You-”
Before he could finish, Macie turned and screamed, “Get out! Get out of my sight!”
At the same time, she turned the showerhead on him.
Edward raised his hand to block the spray, his anger flaring as well. “What the hell is wrong with you? Are you crazy?”

In response, objects were hurled at him, including the showerhead, a bucket, and even the tollet brush. Edward was finally forced to retreat in frustration. He slammed the loor, cursing. “You’re out of your fucking mind!”
He had only come to check on her, yet she sprayed him with water and screamed at him.
At that moment, he was so angry that he could’ve killed her
