Worshiping a woman who turned out to be a murderer–while crushing the one who had been the real victim all along.
And now, after nearly destroying her, he thought he could just show up and ask for forgiveness?
Life didn’t work that way.
As the murmurs grew, the banquet host finally intervened, politely but firmly asking Andrew to leave.
His face darkened, but he had no choice. He turned and walked away.
Behind him, the cheers and applause felt like a slap, his humiliation complete.
Upstairs, in the private lounge, Vernon pulled Lena close, his grip firm.

before they arrived.
But Andrew wasn’t letting go.
He had left Altesia behind, handed everything off to his people–hell, he’d even bought a house in Engloria.
Vernon could shut this down in an instant-
But Andrew had once taken care of Lena.
That alone made him pause.
It was the same reason Benjamin had told him to leave it alone.
The past was over.
From now on, neither of them owed Andrew anything.
Lena felt the tension in Vernon’s hold but said nothing. She just squeezed his hand tighter.
They sat in silence–until fireworks lit up the sky outside.
