Chapter 11
Just as I was about to hall a cab, a sleek black car slowly pulled up in front of me.
“Eve?” The car window rolled down smoothly.
I looked up, still feeling lightheaded.
In that instant, a familiar, refined face came into view.
I froze. “Mr. Wynn?”
Miles stepped out of the car and opened the passenger door gently helping me inside.
It took me a moment to gather my thoughts. “Mr. Wyun, why are you still here?”
He started the engine, his tone calm and measured. “I figured you might still be at the hospital, so I circled the area. And here you are.”
Reaching for a napkin, he handed it to me with a casual ease “Were you sick just now?”
I accepted it, dabbing at my mouth, and replied quietly, “Yes, a little dizzy. It’s probably a lingering effect of the concussion.”
His brows knit slightly, the look in his eyes behind the glasses turning sharp and serious.
That was when I realized my back was damp with cold sweat.
As he drove, his voice was calm but comforting. “It’s alright. Get some rest today, and tomorrow I’ll take you back to the hospital for a check–up.”
I glanced up, and our eyes met in the rearview mirror–his gaze deep and warm, yet steady enough to ground me.
A strange flutter stirred in my chest, and I quickly looked down, muttering, “Thank you… Mr. Wynn.”
He chuckled softly. “Why not call me Woody anymore?”
My cheeks flushed even deeper. “That was… back when I was young and didn’t know better.”
His voice remained light but carried a subtle charm. “Then call me Miles. After all, I was Nicholas‘ classmate and friend, which makes you like a sister to me. Calling me that isn’t too much, is it?”
For reasons I couldn’t quite explain, his words left me with a faint sense of disappointment.
The car moved smoothly through the bustling traffic, steady and unhurried.
Miles handled the wheel with practiced precision, his long fingers guiding it with ease, making the drive seem almost effortless. Watching him drive was strangely mesmerizing, like a master at work–calm, focused, and entirely in control.
I stole a few glances at him but quickly looked away, afraid of being caught.
Miles broke the silence. “Eve, where are you headed?”
I sighed softly. “I was planning to find Dolly.”
He adjusted his glasses, a faint crease forming on his brow Your friend?”
I nodded. “My closest friend.”
He glanced at me briefly before asking, “Is she reliable?”

I nodded again.
“Give me her address. I’ll take you there,” Miles offered without hesitation.
I didn’t decline. After all, I’d already troubled him once what was one more time?
I quickly dialed Dolly’s number, but it went straight to a busy signal. When I tried again, an automated voice informed me, “The mumbet you’ve dialed is currently mallable.”
Peeling frustrated, I muttered, “Her phone’s probably dea
Miles exhaled lightly. “Is this friend of yours the same one who was in that fight at the mall earlier?”
I nodded, the memory of the chaos rushing back. Lhad been so much pain I passed out, completely unaware of what happened to Dolly afterward.
Suddenly, the realization struck me. “I need to find her! What if something happened to her?“,
Miles reached out and gently pressed down on my fidgeting hands, shaking his head. “No need. She’s probably at the police station giving a statement.”
I froze, panic building in my chest. “Then I need to go there! Let’s head to the station right now.”
Inearly jumped out of my seat in urgency, but Miles gave me a strange look–an odd mix of amusement, indulgence, and the faintest trace of concern.
He shifted his gaze away, retrieving his phone as he calmly reassured me. “No rush. Let me check if she’s still there first.”
He made a quick call, his tone composed and steady.
After hanging up, he turned to me. “I asked around. Your friend finished her statement and went home. Her phone’s probably dead, which is why it’s off. But don’t worry, my contact said she’s fine.‘
There was such quiet confidence in his voice that I felt the tension drain from my body, leaving me relieved.
