Chapter 22
I said, “I want a divorce. Jullan, if you’re truly a man, let’s this amicably,”
Looking directly into his eyes, I continued, “I was young and naive before, I made mistakes. Julian, let’s set each
other free.”
With that, 1 turned and left the hospital with Joseph by my de
As the elevator doors slowly closed, I caught one last glimpse of Julian’s tall, solitary figure standing in the hallway.
Lowering my gaze, I refused to look at him again.
I couldn’t quite describe how I felt. Relief, perhaps?
At eighteen, Evelyn White had been proud and radiant, but he had loved the wrong person, clipping her own brilliant wings.
At twenty–five, she was still young enough to start over.
But this time, she wouldn’t fall so easily into the trap of love.
I returned to the Wynn estate.
Joseph continued administering the IV drip and making sure I took my medication.
I complied obediently. Before leaving, he turned to me and said earnestly, “Miss White, everything will be okay.”
A bit surprised, I asked, “You’ve heard of me too, Dr. Watson?”
He gave a small smile. “The social circles are small, but don’t worry. I don’t believe you’re the person everyone thinks you are.”
my heart.
His words warmed my heart.
After he left, I dozed off, only to be jolted awake by a call from Dolly.
I answered, and her voice came through, breathless with frustration. She quickly sent me a screenshot.
“Eve, look at this. Does this woman have any shame?”
I opened the image to find a cozy candlelit dinner–a perfectly plated steak, a glass of red wine, soft candlelight, and a gorgeous bouquet of roses prominently displayed on the table.
The photo showed two hands clasped together a woman’s fingers, pale and adorned with an eye–catching pink diamond ring. The man’s hand held her fingertips, his cufflinks partially visible: sleek blue diamonds against the crisp sleeve of a tailored suit.
I instantly recognized the cufflinks–they belonged to Julian.
That same suit was what he’d been wearing earlier that afternoon when he confronted me, accusing me of driving Chloe out of Riverdale.
I glanced at the caption on the screenshot: “With you, my world is complete.”

On the other end of the line, Dolly’s impatience was palp

I studied the image again and said calmly, “The flowers are beautiful, the pink diamond looks impressive- probably about three carats. Must’ve been expensive.”
Dolly let out a frustrated laugh. “Eve, this is Chloe’s post from her social medial She’s having a candlelit dinner with Julian tonight. And he gave her that pink diamond ring A ring! Do you get what that means?”
Of course, I understood.
Diamonds have always been symbols of love–eternal, unbreakable, and everlasting.
I responded softly, “Dolly, don’t let it get to you.”
She was stunned into silence before finally asking, “Eve, are you okay? Normally by now, you’d have already stormed over there to catch them in the act.”
Her words only filled me with exhaustion. “Catch them? Have I done that before?”
After a pause, Dolly answered, “Yeah, you have. It usually ended badly. Every time, you embarrassed Julian in front of everyone, and Chloe–the eternal victim–would burst into tears. Then, of course, the gossip would start, and everyone would trash you behind your back.”
“Exactly,” I said. “You know Chloe’s doing this to provoke me, playing the innocent damsel. Why should I take the bait?“!
Dolly’s anger dissipated almost instantly.
She asked curiously, “Eve, are you really not angry about this?”
I touched the ache in my chest.
The words “I’m not angry” wouldn’t come out of my mouth.
