How could I not be angry?
Even if there was no love left between Jullan and me, the ft remained that he was still my husband. Yet here he was, dating another woman, showering her with flowers and a diamond ring before our divorce was even finalized. Any woman would be furious.
I could vividly Imagine how, before losing my memory, Chloe’s petty games had beaten me down time and time again, leaving me utterly defeated.
I told Dolly, “Of course I’m angry. But getting angry only plays right into her hands. Don’t let it get to you either. Let’s just sit back and watch them dig their own grave.”
Dolly was silent for a while before finally saying, “Eve, my heart aches for you.”
Her voice quivered. “You’re so good, so kind–why can’t Juban love you? It just makes me so mad. And I’m even angrier that everyone seems blind to Chloe’s manipulative schemes.”
I didn’t respond, sinking into silence.
Dolly kept ranting on the other end, but I felt an unusual sense of calm wash over me.
“Dolly,” I said after a moment. “If you really care about me, stop bringing Julian up.”
Dolly hesitated. “Eve, are you sure you’re okay? You used to forgive Julian no matter how awful he was. But now you’re so rational, I’m honestly worried about you.”
I sighed. “Maybe I’m just tired.”
What followed was me reassuring Dolly for what felt like forever, convincing her that I was fine. My throat was dry by the time she finally believed me and accepted that I wasn’t the same person I used to be.
The moment I hung up, my phone started vibrating again.
I frowned at the unfamiliar number.
Something in my gut told me not to answer.
1 glanced through my contacts–only a handful of names were saved. My WhatsApp list was similarly sparse, reduced to a few dozen people. It wasn’t hard to imagine how bad my relationships must have been before losing
my memory.
The phone buzzed incessantly in my hand.
Against my better judgment, I finally picked up.
“Hello? Who’s this?”
Heavy breathing came through the line, and for a brief moment, panic gripped me.
I asked again, “Who is this? Speak up.”
Finally, Julian’s low, muffled voice came through the line. “Evelyn, add me back.”
My heart skipped a beat.
Pressing a hand to my chest, I realized how unfamiliar this dejected version of Julian felt to me.
My silence seemed to give him back some of his confidence.

His tone turned cold and firm. “Evelyn, I said, add me back And unblock my number too. You’re not a child! Stop playing these petty games.‘
“I’m not playing games. I just don’t want to talk to you.”
My voice was so calm, It even surprised me.
The heavy breathing on the other end resumed, accompanied by what sounded like wind in the background.
I had no idea where Julian had gotten this phone or where was calling from.
After a moment, he asked, his voice quieter but laced with uncertainty, “Eve, you’re just saying this out of anger, right? You don’t really want a divorce, do you?”
I stayed silent.
His frustration erupted. ‘
something! Evelyn, tell me were you are. I’ll come get you!”
I countered, “Where are you, Julian?”
There was a brief pause, as if he hadn’t expected the question.
After a couple of seconds, he replied, his tone vague, “I just got off work. I’m home
I laughed. “Julian, don’t you feel guilty telling such obvious lies?”
He snapped, clearly irritated. “Where I am doesn’t matter! Tell me where you are so I can take you home.”
My tone grew colder. “Don’t worry about where I am, Mr. Moore. But considering you were just pledging eternal
love to Chloe, giving her flowers and diamonds, and now you’re calling your wife to ask for a reconciliation… are you not embarrassed? How would Miss Clarke feel about this?”
The silence on the other end stretched for a long time.
