Chapter 25
1 offered an awkward smulle. “Oh, I see. If my brother comes around, I’ll tell him how kind you’ve been to me, I’ll make sure he treats you to a great meal.”
Then 1 paused, realizing that someone like Miles probably wouldn’t care for a casual dinner invite.
I quickly corrected myself. “No, I’ll have him give you one of his best projects to handle instead. I won’t compete with you for it.”
Miles’s gaze deepened. “Is that how you plan to thank me?
1 froze for a moment.
He chuckled lightly and casually patted my head, a gesture more fitting for comforting a child. “That’s unnecessary. Even if it wasn’t for your brother, I’d still help you if it were your issue.”
“Why?” I asked, still baffled.
Miles winked at me. “Have you forgotten? I’m your Woody
I was completely lost.
Miles didn’t seem inclined to explain further. After a few more pleasantries, he left the room.
Lying back on the bed, I stared at the IV drip bottle, letting my mind wander aimlessly.
The more I thought, the less clarity I found. My brain felt utterly blank.
Frustration seeped in as I realized I couldn’t recall anything about my past with Julian, or even my childhood memories of Miles.
All I could remember were a few hazy fragments, the most vivid being me calling him “Woody.” Beyond that, rest of my memories involving him were indistinct, as if blurred by time.
But why did Miles speak as though we had a close bond during my childhood?
the
Was I overthinking it? Maybe Miles was simply being extra attentive because of his friendship with my brother.
I sighed deeply, my gaze fixed on the IV drip bottle by the bed.
It was a large bag of medication, and judging by the slow pace, it looked like I’d be stuck here for quite a while.
When I woke up, it was already past eight in the evening.
The nurse gently shook me awake, then removed the IV tube and urged me to get up and move around a bit.
I quickly headed to the bathroom.
After washing my face, I noticed how pale I looked, with some puffiness around my features.
Surprisingly, the slight swelling added a touch of softness to my sharp face, giving it a hint of baby fat.
I pinched my cheeks, the familiar sensation bringing a small smile to my lips.
Standing in front of the mirror, I was relieved.
My face was still intact! The once–beautiful heiress of the White family hadn’t completely turned into a worn–out housewife.

I silently vowed to take better care of myself once I recover. Proper meals, regular exercise–I’d regain the youthful vitality of my eighteen year–old self and reclaim the seven years I had lost.
As I stepped out of the bathroom, I nearly collided with wh felt like a wall.
I stumbled but was steadied by a strong hand gripping my arm.
Looking up, I found myself face–to–face with Miles again.
He had changed into casual homewear, his fresh and relaxed appearance catching me off guard.
Feeling embarrassed, I stammered, “Miles… uh, why are you here again?”
The moment I spoke, I realized my wording sounded wrong
Waving my hands, I quickly corrected myself. “No, no, thats not what I meant. I just thought you’d be busy, Miles.
He pushed his glasses up with an amused smile. “When did ever tell you I was busy?”
I fumbled, “Well… aren’t you supposed to be?”
His smile deepened. “Do I seem that way to you? Even if I am busy, there’s always a time to finish work. ”
“Uh…” I hesitated. “I just thought someone like you would always be out at business dinners or working on company affairs. When I was younger, I remember my dad being incredibly busy all the time. And when he handed the company over to my brother, it was just as chaotic for him.”
Mentioning my family, I couldn’t help but say more.
With a wistful look, I added, “Before my brother took over the company, he used to spend so much time with me. But afterward, I hardly ever saw him.”
Miles‘ gaze flickered with something unreadable. “Eve, are you missing your brother?”
