Edward slammed the door shut with a loud bang and turned back to the kitchen. The food he had brought back now looked like a
joke. In a fit of anger, he threw everything into the trash.
Then, he took out his phone and called Macie. The busy tone beeped for a long time, yet no one answered. Just as he was about to lose his temper again, he remembered that Macie’s phone was broken.
He didn’t call again. His expression remained cold as he returned to his bedroom to shower and go to bed.
Macie could go wherever she liked. It had nothing to do with her.
At 2:00 am, Edward woke up to an agonizing pain in his stomach. Irritated, he snapped, “Macie, where’s the…”
The door across from his was ajar–still in the same position as when he had slammed it shut earlier. Edward clenched his fists
and went to find himself some antacid.
The burgers from dinner had been too much for his sensitive stomach, so he hadn’t eaten much. On top of that, he had drunk
some alcohol, and now it was all catching up with him.
His stomach felt empty. He checked the fridge, remembering the food that Macie had made for dinner, but there was nothing
inside.
He checked the kitchen as well, only to find the counter and cabinets completely empty.
Instantly wide awake, he was filled with a dark, simmering rage.
“So that’s how it is, is it? Who gave you the guts to act like this? You’d better never come back for the rest of your life!” he
growled.
The next day, at work, Nathan Levy, Edward’s assistant, could clearly sense that Edward was in a foul mood. He found it
terrifying. To avoid getting caught in the crossfire, he stood a distance away from Edward while reporting to him.
“Go and pick out a phone,” Edward told him that morning after handing him a signed document.
“What brand and model would you like, Mr. Fowler?” Nathan asked cautiously.
“Whatever,” Edward replied irritably.
“What about the color and features-“Nathan tried to clarify, but Edward cut him off.
“I said whatever. I just need it to be able to make calls!”
Shuddering, Nathan quickly took the document and retreated. As soon as the office door closed behind him, he let out a long

which. What if he doesn’t like the breath, shaking his head. He thought that working under Edward was much harder than attending to a murderous king
At the same time, in the hospital, Macie lay on her stomach on the hospital bed, still feeling a sharp pain in her lower back. She had fallen asleep early last night, but her sleep had been restless, as she had woken up multiple times due to the pain.
In the morning, she checked her phone and saw three missed calls from Edward from the night before. She didn’t call back. Then, as she had forgotten her laptop at home in her rush to leave yesterday, she had no choice but to watch her educational videos on the cracked screen of her phone.
In the afternoon, her scan results came back. It turned out that her coccyx was fractured.
Macie stared at the X–ray coldly.
She had been thrown to the ground once and shoved down another time. Last night, Edward had accused her of attempted
murder, but he was the one who was trying to kill her.
“If you’re experiencing domestic violence, you can seek legal aid,” the nurse who was applying a hot compress to her back told
her.
“Thank you. I will do that if I need help,” Macie said, returning the X–ray to its folder for safekeeping
These medical records would serve as evidence. Should Edward continue to refuse divorce, she would have solid proof to charge
him with domestic violence and infidelity.
Night fell. Over at a five–star restaurant, Edward and Sharon dined together.
“Ed, you really don’t have to spend every day with me. May won’t like it,” Sharon said as she watched Edward cut up her steak for
her.
“Who cares what she thinks? Your happiness is all that matters,” Edward said coldly, expressionlessly.
Sharon smirked subtly before masking it quickly and clinking her glass with Edward’s. “Are you coming to my fashion show tomorrow? I can get you a VIP pass,” she said shyly.
There was a brief silence. Edward did not respond.
Sharon looked up at him. “Ed?”
Edward snapped back to his senses. “Yeah?”
“What were you thinking about? You were lost in thought,” Sharon asked.

“Nothing,” Edward said, pursing his lips.
“Were you thinking about… May?” Sharon probed, clenching her teeth.
“Of course not. I was thinking about work,” he immediately refuted. He did not meet her gaze. Clearly, he was making up an
excuse.
She stared at him for a moment, half–doubting his words, and repeated her invitation to her fashion show.
This time, he agreed. Forcing a smile, he raised his glass to hers again.
“Sharon, are you okay?” Edward shook Sharon gently outside the hotel as she leaned against his shoulder.
Sharon’s eyes were closed, her arms wrapped loosely around him. She did not answer him, seeming completely drunk
He had no choice but to carry her into the hotel. He opened her purse, got her room card, and brought her to her room on the fifth
floor.
With a soft beep, the door opened. As he moved to place her on the bed, her arms suddenly tightened around his neck, refusing to
let go.
“Sharon…” Edward was pulled down to the bed with her. Sharon’s perfume surrounded him as she mumbled indistinctly.
“Edward, please don’t go… Don’t love May. I love you… I love you so much…”
“I don’t love her,” he said as he tried to free himself from her arms. Before he could, she pressed her lips against his.
“No, you love her. You married her. You’re going to go back to her…” she mumbled.
Hearing this, Edward fiercely denied this in his heart. He didn’t love Macie. Not even a little bit. Their marriage had been forced upon him by Yosef. He would never fall in love with Macie!
But actions spoke louder than words, so to prove that he wouldn’t go back to Macie, he cradled Sharon’s head and returned the
kiss.
The air in the room grew warm.
Sharon wrapped her arms around Edward’s waist as they pressed their bodies close together. The kisses trailed from their lips all the way down to their collarbones.
All Edward could see in his mind was Macie’s face. It fueled him with anger, and he vented that anger by biting down viciously on
the skin between his teeth.
Suddenly, a soft hand brushed against his skin. It instantly jolted him awake. He froze.
Sharon opened her eyes, still caught in the moment, as Edward propped himself up. He looked down at her, his expression
stunned and dazed.
Then, he abruptly pulled away, rolling off to the side.
