His tone was sharp and venomous, unlike his gentle demeanor with Sasha. I knew Emery was blinded by love, but I had not expected him to be so far gone that he would throw all decency aside.
Ignoring him, I turned to the officer to ask when the fingerprint results would be ready. I had no intention of wasting more energy on this circus.
As I left the station, I overheard Sasha complaining about needing to recover with some creme brulee and rest. Without hesitation, Emery helped her into his car and drove off.
Their own children lay on the brink of death in the hospital, and yet they were prioritizing their dessert and comfort. I could not help but scoff at how blinded Emery was to the woman by his side.

me awake. Then, I saw a nurse emerge. She was quietly pushing a medical cart.
“Excuse me, nurse. Were you just changing the children’s medication?” I asked, standing up to check on their condition.

Something about her posture seemed familiar. I watched her retreating figure while trying to place where I had seen her before. Before I could dwell on it, a sharp, high–pitched beep pierced the air. I whipped around to see the heart monitor in the room flatlining.
Doctors rushed in and began emergency procedures. My hands shook as I fumbled for my phone. I did not love Emery anymore, but if the worst happened, the kids would want their father there.
I called him again, but as usual, there was no answer. Frustrated, I sent him a text. “The kids are in critical condition. Come to the hospital immediately!”
I kept my eyes glued to the medical team while silently praying the children would survive.
“Luna and Liam, Mommy’s here!” The voice was not mine. I turned to see Sasha entering the room. Her face was full of false
sorrow.
I thought, “What the hell? Weren’t she and Emery supposed to be together right now?”
“Caroline, it’s you again! You killed my babies. You murdered them!” Sasha lunged at me. She grabbed my shirt as tears streamed down her face.
I tried to shake her off, but she clung to me like a leech.
