“I’m sorry. Please accept my condolences,” the doctor said quietly as he stepped out of the intensive care unit, then walked away
without another word.
Sasha’s wails filled the corridor instantly. “My babies! My poor babies! You murderer! Give me back my children!”
She lunged at me and tried to grab my clothes, but I instinctively stepped back. My mind was buzzing.
I could still remember holding Luna and Liam earlier. I remembered feeling the warmth of their small bodies. And now, they were

The officer turned to Sasha, who was still sobbing loudly, and presented a warrant. He announced, “Ms. Woods, you are under arrest for suspicion of attempted murder and arson.”
“You’re wrong!” Emery yelled while stepping forward in outrage. “It’s not Sasha! It’s Caroline! You’ve got the wrong person!”
“Are you seriously telling me this is how taxpayer–funded law enforcement operates?” he spat angrily. He stood protectively in
front of Sasha.
In response, the officer held up a set of nurse scrubs. He explained, “We found these in a trash bin around the corner. According to the medical report, the children were stable two hours ago.
“Their sudden critical condition was caused by a large dose of insulin, which was deliberately injected.”
He continued, “We reviewed the hospital’s surveillance footage. Ms. Woods disguised herself in these scrubs, entered the ICU, injected the children, and then discarded the evidence before showing up here to create an alibi.
“Additionally, the fingerprints collected from the fire scene match Ms. Woods‘.”
Emery froze as he struggled to process the information. As officers moved to take Sasha into custody,
