My father’s lips quivered when he saw me. He tried to reach out to me, but his hand soon fell back at his side.
On the other hand, my mother was still in disbelief. “No, it’s impossible! She must have staged this to punish me for sending Alice abroad instead of her. That has to be it!”
The more she spoke, the more convinced she was. Then, she moved closer to me and pointed at me as she scolded, “Can’t you just let it go, Vanessa? It’s been years since this happened. So what if I didn’t let you study abroad? Do you have to scare me like this? Stop pretending and get up!
I found everything ridiculous as those words poured out of her mouth.
When I was in college, my grades were good, and I received an offer to study at a top international graduate school. However, my mother refused to let me go and insisted that Alice should go instead since her grades wouldn’t get her into a good university.
Although I had suggested that we both study abroad, she flatly refused and said I would have bullied Alice if we were both overseas. So, for that petty reason, she stopped me from pursuing my future when she knew this was unfair to begin with.
My mother even tried to pull me up when my corpse remained motionless.
At that moment, my father suddenly raised his hand and slapped my mother across the face.
I was stunned when he did that. After all, my father was a weak man who had never protected his daughter when she was being bullied.
“How long are you going to keep this up?” he shouted. “Vanessa is dead! She’s gone! She died, and so did her. children! Are you happy now, Miranda? Are you satisfied now that this happened?”
My mother froze and looked at my father with reddened eyes.
“How could my dear Vanessa be dead?”
At that moment, Liam opened the door, oblivious to the atmosphere. “Mom, Dad, you’re back! Where’s Vanessa? Did you bring her home? Hurry up and get her to apologize to Alice. How could she act so childish when she was already pregnant…”
Before he could finish his words, my mother interrupted him by slapping him hard across the face. Then, she shoved him forcefully, causing him to stumble onto the sofa in shock.
She grabbed his throat and screamed at him. “Where’s Vanessa? Give me back my daughter! Where were you when she was dying? You’re a doctor. Why didn’t you save her?”
Liam was embarrassed by her words. Still, he managed to push her away and said, “What do you mean?” He

Chapter 6 She’s Trudy Dead
looked at my father.
“Vanessa died seven days ago from childbirth.”
Liam sank onto the sofa in disbelief upon hearing my father’s dull words. “That’s impossible.”
Alice sensed the tension. So, she immediately dropped to her knees and sobbed. “It’s all my fault, Mom. I should die to atone for Vanessa!”
Her words seemed to bring my mother back to her senses as she collapsed onto the floor and cradled Alice. “It’s not your fault, Alice. Don’t be afraid.”
None of them noticed the disappointed look on my father’s face.
