you seeing this, Vanessa? I have avenged you! She is going to die!”
Meanwhile, I felt a chilling emptiness in my soul.
The moment Alice died, her spirit floated away from her body. When she noticed me, she fell silent for a moment before saying, “I’m sorry for all those years.”
I was puzzled by how she only understood everything at the moment of her death. On second thought, I realized I had long forgotten about my desperate need for my parents and husband’s love when I had died.
“I was suffering from the pain of living under someone else’s roof as a child, so I sought love through your mother punishing you. I’m sorry.” .
I watched as she bowed to me. Then, I nodded and said, “I won’t forgive you. If I forgave you, I would betray the countless grievances I’ve endured. That would be unbearable for me. I’ve lived in pain long enough, and I won’t let it continue even in death.”
As Alice heard my words, her expression twisted in rage. It was obvious that she was about to curse me. Just before she could utter a word, her spirit turned to ash.
Just then, a glowing white light streamed from where she had vanished into my body. Instantly, I felt warm again.
Back at home, my father had prepared a feast. I peeked at the table and noticed that these dishes were different from before.
Chicken, lamb, beef… There was no seafood or pork.
These were all my favorite dishes, ones I’d only enjoyed when I was much younger.
In the past, we weren’t wealthy enough to have a maid. So, my father often cooked these meals. Unfortunately, I was now a spirit and couldn’t even have a bite of those dishes. Otherwise, I would have gladly turned around and left.
After all, they were only doing this after my death.
My father poured the good wine he had been saving and silently filled glasses for my mother and Liam.
My mother looked dazed. “Vanessa, it’s time to eat! These are all your favorite dishes!”
The three of them looked like they were about to tear up as they silently ate. The wine visibly diminished in the bottle.

I sighed and genuinely couldn’t understand what they were loing right now.
“Miranda.” My father poured another glass for my mother, Do you think I deserve to die?”
I saw him discreetly wipe away a tear from the corner of his eye.
My mother didn’t respond.
Then, my father raised his glass to toast with Liain. “What do you think, Liam?”
Liam’s eyes were red, and he choked out a sob. “Dad, don’t say that. I’m the one who should die. I’m a monster. All these years, I treated Vanessa like that…”
I rolled my eyes upon hearing his disgusting tirade of self–pity and drifted further away from Liam,
My father gulped down his wine and glanced at my photo, a look of relief flashing in his eyes.
It was a picture taken the day I found out I was pregnant. I was smiling brightly in that picture.
“We’re all guilty. We deserve to die.”
