Daniel looked at them with deep disappointment.
His biggest regret was that moment of weakness when he agreed to keep the child for his parents‘ sake.
If not for that decision, Abigail would not have discovered his betrayal. She would not have left in heartbreak.
At the hospital, he had found records of Abigail’s scheduled abortion. She had terminated their child. The child she had suffered
so much to conceive.
How devastated must she have been to make that decision?
No–this mistake had started even earlier.
The moment he noticed Elena’s feelings toward him had gone beyond what was appropriate, he should have fired her.
Yet at that time, he was under immense pressure. Their third IVF attempt had failed.
His parents had been pressuring him relentlessly, demanding that he either divorce Abigail or have a child with someone else.
How he did it, they did not care.
The Cooper family had always been a single–heir lineage for generations, and with a massive business empire to inherit, they
would not allow the bloodline to end with him.
His relationship with his parents had been at its worst back then.
On one hand, he had to calm them down. On the other, he had to comfort Abigail.
The stress had been suffocating. Elena, with her quirky and playful nature, had been a source of amusement.
Being around her had been a rare moment of relief. So even though she often made ridiculous mistakes, he would let them slide.
What he never expected was that she would drug him.

During that time, Abigail had told him she felt stifled at home and wanted to take a trip to clear her mind.
He had no reason to stop her.
She had an escape. But he―he was a man. He could not afford to escape.
The only way he knew how to vent was through work, and through alcohol at business dinners.
Getting drunk was not unusual for him–it had happened more than once.
Every time, his assistant would take him home. Every time except for that night.
That night, his assistant’s girlfriend had been in a car accident, so he let him leave to deal with it.
So, that night, it was Elena who had taken him home. In his intoxicated haze, he ended up in bed with her.
He had his suspicions the next morning, but Elena had cried so pitifully, her tears falling like scattered petals.
So, he had no choice but to accept it. His first instinct had been to make sure Abigail never found out.
She went through a miserable childhood because of her father’s infidelity. She would never forgive something like this.
It was not until later–when he saw the footage from their home security camera—that he realized the truth.
That night, he had not lost control because of alcohol. Elena had drugged him.

It was no wonder she had not asked for money, and that she had still gotten pregnant even though he had watched her take the
birth control pill.
It had all been part of her plan.
Daniel exhaled sharply, waving them away.
“Leave. All of you. You got what you wanted. Stay far away from me–don’t ever let me see you
again.”
