Daniel froze, then turned back to the doctor, his voice trembling. “Are you sure? There’s no mistake?”
The doctor gave him a puzzled look. “There’s no mistake–you’re Abigail King’s husband, aren’t you? She went through her fourth round of IVF recently.”
“She was afraid of disappointing you, so she kept it a secret. She came in for a checkup last month, and this time, it finally
worked. She didn’t tell you?
“You should really treat her well. She went through so much just to carry your child–it wasn’t easy at all.”
The doctor kept talking, but Daniel felt like he had lost his hearing. All other sounds faded into a distant hum.
His Abby… was also pregnant.
And it was last month… His eyes widened in horror.
So that was why she had been at the hospital that day. She had gone to pick up her test results.
The very same day she found out she was finally pregnant, she saw him–her husband—accompanying another woman for a
prenatal checkup.
Not to mention, he had even pushed her.
Daniel sucked in a sharp breath, trying to ease the crushing pain in his chest. A wave of despair swallowed him whole.
For the first time, he realized… this time, Abigail might never forgive him.
Daniel had never driven so fast in his life.
A voice in his head urged him to go faster, and faster.
“Abby…” Daniel called out as he burst through the door. The house was pitch dark, not a single light on.
Their wedding photo at the bedside had been slashed to pieces. The closet was empty, and every trace of Abigail was gone.
It was as if the past ten years had been nothing more than a dream.
A deep, bone–chilling panic clawed at his chest. Then his eyes landed on the divorce papers sitting on the vanity.
The fear inside him reached its peak.
“Abby…” A gut–wrenching cry echoed in the empty house.
