“Someone, get the car! We’re going to the hospital!” Henry yelled,
However, Bethany grabbed Henry’s wrist and stepped in front of him with that same skeptical tone she always had.
“Jessica claims she was taken hostage, and now Mrs. Larson just happens to show up like this? That’s way too much of a
coincidence!
“Henry, don’t be fooled–Jessica’s little tricks are so low they’re almost laughable.”
She shot a disdainful glance at Margaret and added, “And really, Jessica? Dressing up Mrs. Larson like this in the middle of the night? That’s just cruel!”
Using Margaret as a weapon was usually enough to set Henry off.
But today, Henry didn’t explode. Instead, he stared at Bethany with a cold and unrelenting gaze like he was trying to burn a hole
straight through her.
Bethany’s confidence faltered. She hesitated for a split second before forcing a laugh. “Henry, why are you looking at me like
that?”
Then, with an air of wounded innocence, she added, “Maybe I’ve been too selfish by keeping you all to myself. But still, Mrs.
Larson and Jessica shouldn’t be pulling a stunt like this just to get your attention.
“Imagine how devastated Mrs. Larson will be when she wakes up and realizes what Jessica has done.”
Bethany sighed as if she was genuinely feeling bad for Margaret.
But Henry’s expression only darkened. “Are you saying my mother did this to herself?”
How could she possibly say that? Margaret was 65 years old!
But Bethany didn’t back down. “Henry, you’re Jensburg’s backbone–who in their right mind would dare lay a finger on you?
“And now, all of a sudden, they’re claiming they were abducted? No. This has Jessica written all over it-”
Henry’s patience snapped, and his voice rose to a furious roar. “Shut up! Are you blind? How could my mom possibly fake
something like this?”
Henry’s eyes were flushed crimson with rage.
The tattered remains of a dress barely covered Margaret’s frail body, and her exposed skin was mottled with deep bruises.
