All this over a single meal? Leaving garbage to rot just to throw a tantrum?
His first instinct was to head upstairs, but as his eyes glanced around, he spotted a phone left behind on a chair.
Picking it up, he saw the wallpaper on the lock screen: Celia’s bright, smiling face took up most of the frame, but in the
background, there he was, hard at work.
He remembered this photo. She had snapped it in secret, grinning mischievously when he caught her. That day, she’d proinised
to delete it.
But she hadn’t. She had kept it all this time.
A strange, unplaceable emotion stirred in his chest.
Without unlocking the phone, he turned off the screen and slipped it back down. Pulling out his own phone, he called someone to

come and deal with the mess in the dining room, then headed upstairs.
Celia’s bedroom door wasn’t locked. With a light push, it creaked open.

He stepped into the room, and what greeted him was an almost barren space, save for a wardrobe sealed tightly with duct tape.
Everything that used to fill the room–her cherished belongings, the gifts he had given her over the years, things she once
proudly displayed, claiming they’d always stay in the most prominent spots–was gone. The emptiness seeped into the air, and
inexplicably, he felt a hollow ache in his chest.
But something felt off.
Celia wasn’t there, and neither were her possessions. Even her phone, which she always carried, was left behind.
It wasn’t time for college to start yet, so why would she suddenly vanish without a word? This wasn’t like her at all.
Instinctively, Lucas pulled out his phone and called his assistant. “Find out where Celia is.”
The moment he ended the call, his eyes were drawn to the wardrobe, the one sealed with duct tape, standing out like an anomaly
in the otherwise bare room.
He took a step toward it, unease creeping into his chest, growing heavier with each step.
Reaching out, he began peeling the tape away. His hands trembled slightly as dread churned in his stomach, but just as he was
about to open the wardrobe, a sudden, shrill ringtone shattered the silence of the room.
Startled, he answered his phone. On the other end was his assistant, her voice hurried and panicked.
“Mr. Shaw, something’s wrong. Miss Quinn had her identity records completely erased. The staff at the registry office said that
when she filed the paperwork, she mentioned something about disappearing from this world in six days!”
The phone slipped from his hand and hit the floor with a loud thud.
Lucas‘ heart skipped a beat, and a deafening buzz filled his ears as if the ground beneath him had shifted.
That couldn’t be true.
It had to be some sort of cruel joke–a lie.
Celia couldn’t have disappeared from this world. She was only eighteen, standing on the cusp of a bright future. How could someone so young, so full of life, simply vanish?
It was impossible.
