She gestured at the scarf as she continued, her tone careful but firm. “Given that you personally made this… I’m finding it too
intimate to accept as a simple thank–you gift.”
Her reasoning should have been a polite refusal, but it only gave Lucas the opportunity he’d been waiting for.
Seizing the moment, he took a deep breath and stepped closer, his gaze steady and unwavering.
“Then, can you give me a chance to be your boyfriend instead?” he asked, his words unembellished but filled with sincerity.
In their year and a half of knowing each other, Lucas had been nothing but kind and thoughtful toward her. To say she’d never felt something for him would have been a lie. But his confession, so sudden and direct, left her completely unprepared.
Her cheeks flushed crimson, her mind blank. Before she could gather her thoughts, Lucas closed the distance between them, his expression warm and determined.
“Let me help you put it on.”
Celía, still speechless, could only nod ever so slightly, a gesture so subtle it was barely there.
Her silent agreement lit up Lucas‘ face. His eyes gleamed with joy, and a genuine smile spread across his lips as he carefully stepped closer, draping the scarf around Celia’s neck with precision. It fit perfectly–not too loose, not too tight, and just the
right length.

The proximity made her acutely aware of his warm breath brushing against her ear, sending an unbidden blush cascading over
her cheeks.
The snowy backdrop and the crisp whiteness of the scarf only emphasized her fair complexion. The pink tint in her cheeks, whether from the cold or embarrassment, added a vibrant warmth to her features, making her appear even more radiant.
“So, Celia, will you give me a chance?”
His question made her heart race. She stammered, her words faltering as she tried to respond. “W–what kind of chance?”
The moment the words left her mouth, Celia realized how foolish they sounded. She inwardly winced at herself, but the sound of
Lucas‘ soft chuckle broke the tension.
His gaze remained fixed on her, tender and unyielding, like he was afraid to scare her away. “A chance to be your boyfriend. I like
you, Celia. I really, really like you.”
He paused, his voice growing more resolute. “I don’t have much now, but if you trust me and give me time, I promise to give you
the best of everything I can.”
As he finished, Lucas exhaled deeply, as though a weight had been lifted from his chest. His eyes brimmed with hope and
determination, confident that her answer would align with his.
Celia looked up at him, his height making her feel small yet oddly safe. She opened her mouth to respond, the words poised on the
tip of her tongue.
But then it hit her–a sudden, sharp pain radiating through her head like a lightning strike. Her expression shifted from surprise
to distress in an instant.
Her face drained of color, her lips trembling as she struggled to speak. Before she could form a single word, her vision blurred,
and the world around her spun.
The last thing she saw before losing consciousness was Lucas‘ panicked expression as he lunged forward to catch her.
