Chapter 9
Hearing Cayden’s words, Leo was overcome with emotion and reached forward, wanting to embrace him.
But Cayden smacked away his hand, which had been clutching my sleeve.
“But I have never once missed my father. Because my father died the day he denied my existence and stood by while my mother
was beaten to the ground.
“Alpha Leo, as the third–generation heir of Windmere, this is my final warning. My mother is of the royal bloodline of Windmere. Do not insult her ever again.
“Take your pack and go back to your territory. Go live out your days with the Luna and heir you’ve spent all your nights yearning
for.”
He took my arm and walked away without ever looking back, leaving Leo frozen in place.
He collapsed to his knees and clutched his face as he broke down in gut–wrenching sobs.
Perhaps he had accepted the truth that Cayden and I no longer loved him.
We were no longer waiting.
