Luther collapsed into a chair as the metallic taste of blood filled his mouth. Jane’s expression turned livid beside
him.

“What kind of woman did you marry? That was the Spencer family’s child, and she actually dared to abort it!
“Luther, I’m telling you, if she doesn’t want a baby, then Wren will-” Her words were cut off when she met Luther’s dark, hateful gaze.
“Do… you hate me?” Jane stammered.
“Shouldn’t I?” Luther replied in a chilling tone.
He hated Jane, and he hated Wren, but he hated himself most of all.
Jane’s eyes turned bloodshot with disbelief. “You have no right to hate me! I’m the one who gave birth to you and raised you. And Wren? You were the one who agreed to her having your baby!
“If you want to harm her child, fine. Just don’t call me your mother anymore!”
With that, she stormed out. Luther sat in a daze for a long time before instructing someone to retrieve the hospital’s surveillance footage.
When the footage arrived, he hesitated for several minutes before pressing play. The moment he did, his entire body began to tremble.
The footage showed Callista and him.
He had accompanied Wren to the hospital because she wasn’t feeling well yesterday afternoon. He had told Wren he wouldn’t let anything happen to her or the baby.
At that exact moment, Callista had been nearby, watching silently. She had just lost their child.
Luther’s eyes turned crimson, and a guttural sob escaped his throat.
He replayed the footage over and over. His fingers traced the fragile figure of Callista standing near the window. She was barely able to stay upright. The pain in his chest felt unbearable.
When Callista needed him the most, he hadn’t been there–not once.
He had promised to protect her for a lifetime, yet every wound she bore had been inflicted by him.
by him.

Chapter 12
In the footage, Callista took out her phone. Luther pulled up the last message she had sent him, and the timestamp matched perfectly.
“The surprise I prepared for you is ready.”
It turned out the ultrasound image wasn’t the surprise. This moment was.
As the footage reached its end, Luther finally forced himself to look away.
“Have you found out where Callista went?” he asked.
On the other end of the call, his assistant, Arthur Klein, spoke cautiously. “Mrs. Spencer flew to Andela, but she immediately bought tickets to several other destinations. Her current location is unclear.”
Luther nearly dropped the phone.
Callista’s intent was crystal clear–she didn’t want to be found. She wanted to sever ties with him completely.
Nonetheless, he couldn’t let her go. They had such a beautiful past. How could he ever let it go?
“Cally, please forgive me one more time. I promise I won’t disappoint you again,” he whispered.
Meanwhile, the internet was in an uproar. News of Luther’s affair had triggered widespread outrage, and Spencer Group products were being boycotted across the board.
Yet Luther remained in the nursery. He refused to leave and was still clutching his phone. He dialed Callista’s number again and again, despite knowing it wouldn’t go through.
He sent one pleading message after another, only to be met with silence. The despair of losing Callista pushed him to the brink of collapse.
Just then, the sound of the door opening broke through his daze. Luther instinctively looked up. His heart leapt as a figure stepped inside.
The moment he saw a woman, the light finally returned to his eyes.
“Honey, you’re back?”
