Wren glanced back before leaving. Luther had returned to his seat. He was staring blankly at the ultrasound image and the storage box on the table.
A faint smirk curled Wren’s lips.
Five years of marriage. Two lives lost. One broken soul. Luther owed Callista a debt of blood, one she would never return to collect.
But with Jane’s support, Wren knew it was only a matter of time before she became Mrs. Spencer.

Chapter 13
The villa fell silent again.
Luther mechanically took out his phone and typed another message to Callista, one of countless he had already
sent..
“Cally, please come back and have one look at me. I can’t live without you. Even if it’s out of pity, please.”
The lack of a response shattered his fragile composure.
“Honey, I know I was wrong. The only person I love is you
“I don’t care about having a child. I only care about you.
“Please, don’t leave me. Yell at me, hit me, do whatever you want. Just don’t go…”
He repeated the words over and over, until his pleas dissolved into broken sobs. But the one person he wished could hear him wasn’t there to listen.
Two more days passed, and there was still no word from Callista.
Yet Wren’s messages came incessantly.
४
“Luther, Madam Spencer is taking great care of me and the baby. Don’t worry about us.
“The baby and I miss you. What do you think we should name him?
“I know you chose me because I look like Callista. Now that she’s gone, you can treat me as her replacement. I
don’t mind.”
Among them was a message from Jane.
“I’m hosting a dinner tonight and introducing Wren to the family. Come if you’ve made up your mind.”
Luther’s eyes filled with rage. They were bloodshot and burning. No one could replace Callista–not even a lookalike.
Carefully, he smoothed the ultrasound image and placed it back in the storage box. Then he drove to the Spencer
residence.
“Luther, I knew you’d come around,” Jane said with delight as she welcomed him at the door..
“Once the relatives arrive, you and Wren can entertain them together.”
Luther gave her a faint smile and handed her his phone.
“Mom, I brought you a gift.”
Jane looked down, and her face turned ashen with just one glance. She plunged into despair.
