Chapter 17
Kai shuddered at Luther’s words.
“I did it… I did it for my sister,” he stammered.
“She’s been doing IVF for four years. Her health’s been deteriorating, and your mother’s been putting so much pressure on her. I was afraid she wouldn’t be able to bear it,
“If she adopted Wren’s child, it would shut your family up and give her a way out.”
Luther threw a punch. It landed squarely on Kai’s face. He continued with a vicious kick that knocked Kai to the ground.
He didn’t hold back. He was raining blow after blow until he finally stopped while breathing heavily.
“Was it really for her? Or was it for yourself?”
“Of course, it was for-” Kai started to argue, but Luther cut him off with a cold laugh.
“I helped you start your business, and you got a taste of success. You went along with hiding the truth from your sister because you wanted to curry favor with me, to secure more of my support.
“Kai, ask yourself this. Would your sister ever have wanted you to help her like this?”
The harsh truth struck.Kai like a slap to the face, and his expression turned ashen. Callista would never have
wanted this.
Otherwise, why would he have gone to such lengths, conspiring with Luther to keep it all hidden?
“Callista was pregnant. She had an abortion. The baby didn’t make it.
“And her first child? The miscarriage was because of the pregnancy tonic my mother gave her,” said Luther in a cold, unrelenting voice.
Kai stood frozen. It was as if he was struck by lightning. His lips moved, but no sound came out.
