It couldn’t possibly be what Callista thought, could it? But it sure was.
Callista could hardly believe that someone as composed and gentle as Jude could come up with so many plans— plans designed to make her cheat on Luther.
She flipped through the pages, half–laughing and half–crying, until her eyes froze on a particular line.
“Better not. It would upset her.”
Her heart skipped a beat.
“To be honest, when I first saw all this, I was even more shocked than you,” Harriet said while shrugging.
“You think you know someone, but family always surprises you. Honestly, we wondered if he might be a little… unhinged.”
Callista laughed despite herself.
“But one thing is clear–he’s been stuck on you for 12 years. We’ve tried to talk sense into him, but he’s stubborn.
“I’m sorry about that call that morning. I really didn’t know you were with him.
“I apologize for helping to mold him into the person that he is. If you can, please be patient with him. At the very least… don’t despise him.”
Callista found herself smiling. Harriet was… as charmingly blunt as her brother.
“Can I take these two notebooks with me?” she asked.
Harriet nodded, and Callista left with them in hand.
Callista messaged Jude on the way home, asking to meet.
When she passed by a pharmacy, she turned inside. Frankly, her period which was always punctual was two weeks
late.
Callista then locked herself in the bathroom with a pregnancy test back at her apartment.
Three minutes later, the result appeared: two lines. She stared at it, feeling incredibly stunned.
Knowing the pain she’d endured, it felt like the universe had offered her an unexpected gift.
The doorbell rang at that moment, which pulled her out of her thoughts.
